Somebody brought up the question in the topic about what was your father's first new car.. so here is mine in all it's cheap koreaness. the rare Hyundai Excel GS.
The GS meant sport.. in Hyundai speak that meant monochromatic paint, cross spoke alloys and all the options you could get with the 5 speed.. (Which did not include a sunroof.. you could only get that with the Auto)
1.5 with a whole 62 horses under that stubby front hinged hood was nothing fast.. but was fun due to it's light weight and good traction in bad conditions.. provided you removed the front swaybar (like I did) or it would plow into the first kerb you could find on a rainy day (like I did)
Mine was black just like this one
EDIT I put 161,000 miles on mine before trading it in on a 1999 Hyundai Tiburon. I even used the excel in the "jersey jump" one year where I broke the front crossmember. The car never let me down, even with a broken crossmember, I was able to drive it home. A $20 trip to the Junkyard netted me a new Crossmember and I was back on the road in a weekend
Mine was a 1989 5-speed Mazda 626 LX. White, with a luxurious interior trimmed in the finest blue velour. I drove that sucker for the next 14 years and 170,000 miles and it was a damn good car. When I sold it, it still had the original struts and clutch in it.
Looked a lot like this:
My wife's '09 Fit Sport is the only new car I've bought(it is in both our names).
Had a '94 Escort GT and '97 Eclipse GSX that were both untitled demos when I got them though.
Never, ever, ever thought I'd own a new car. "That E36 M3's for suckers" I'd say. Enter: Baby. 2011 Fit. Cold A/C. No worries for mommy and baby. Mind-blowingly nimble. Still amazed at the stuff that fits in there...like the engineers said "Yeah, this needs to be 1/8" longer, because the average length of this widget is (x.)
35 mpg all day. Slow as balls in a straight line (see 35mpg,) but 1st and 2nd are short and fun. Daddy had fun wheeling her around Road Atlanta at the Mitty last year...and will hopefully do it again this year.

I love the Fit. If I could afford a new car as a daily, it would be high on my list.
First brand new car was a Datsun 200 SX. My ex and I bought it together.
First car I owned all by myself was a Nissan Micra.
Only car I ever bought new was this 1980 Mazda 626. I drove it for 20 years, it was a great little car.
Never bought one new, probably never will.

Not much else.
First NEW was a 2000 Dodge Dakota sport. V-6, 5spd with a loud cat-back. I kept it for 11 years, and it was a great truck.
1996 Ford Ranger XL 2wd 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed. As fast as a hourglass.
So far, it's the ONLY one I have bought new. Everything else is a handmedown or used. If the factories keep pumping out steaming piles of poo on 4 wheels, I prolly will keep my old POFS's longer.

Traded my wife's craptastic '81 Fairmont Futura for a shiny new 1992 base Caravan in May of 1992. First child was born in June of 1992.
I'd still have it in the garage, getting about 2000 miles a year hauling my crap around, except it got rear ended by a cell phone talker.
2009 Accent SE. Just hit 60k miles on Thursday.
Its not really mine, its my wife's, but I've never had a "NEW" car. I still drive it a lot.
2008 Focus
None of my 100+ have been new yet, and likely won't ever happen. I came really close thrice (Silver SRT-4, Black 04 GTO, and a Blue 2011 MS3), but the depreciation scared me away.
When I make a few mil it would be fun to completely custom order one though. Preferably a Ferrari (with a gd stick shift!)
Not yet. Almost ended up with a Versa, and a 100 mile demo Reno.
I'm not afraid of depreciation, I understand that the only way manufacturers will make the cars we want is to be the ones to buy them new.

Depreciation is only an issue if you plan on keeping your car just a few years. We bought the TSX new in 2004 and we'll still be driving it in 2014 and probably in 2018. Depreciation doesn't mean bupkis to me.
1986 Ford Escort GT in arrest me red just like this one.

Yeah, that's really pretty.
My 82 is brown. New in August of 82, and I still own it. 350 with a small roots blower now, too much cam, 4:11 gears...
Its kind of sad, though. Its not really as much fun to drive as my B13 SER, or the Neon R/T I've got just now.
