Just don't plow too fast - I see lot's of 1/2 tons up here with bent frames. If you are going to plow slow a Jeep or small SUV or a 1/2 ton is fine. If you are going to push hard get a 3/4 or 1 Ton.

How could that possibly have "more appeal" with a different paint job?
I kinda wanna paint shark teeth on the plow, but other than that, there is no more appeal with different paint.
No, no, no, this is all going wrong: two towns over a guy has an electrically heated driveway. Starts to snow, he flips a switch. A friend of mine is his grounds keeper....any "excess snow" as he calls it, and the grounds keeper gets a call to scrape off the couple of inches. Even worked during last year's blizzards.
And if you have to ask how much it cost....
We have that snow melt at work(ski resort). Works darn well. While initially expensive, and not super cheap to operate....it ultimately is way cheaper than just one hurt back(due to shoveling) claim to an insurance company, or one slip and fall claim. We use propane to heat radiant tubing under the walkways.
Of course that's not quite as pricey as it is to heat an outdoor pool in sub zero temps.

So- this interests me. It's been hit (don't care if it's ugly) and may have a title issue. Obviously not the best plow truck based on length. Anything else that you might know about it that I should be wary of?

Saw them install a radiant heat system in a driveway on This Old House. I gotta admit that I kinda liked that idea.
4wd 4.3 TBI S10 pickup with a 6.5 ft blade would be perfect.
I do recommend finding a vehicle and plow combo rather than buying separately as the deal will likely be better plus you get to avoid dealing with making the 2 get along with each other.

My other concern would be trying to put chains on the back - would you end up with chains just on the outer wheels and would that be sufficient if you want to run chains front & back?
^^^
A close friend of mine learned how to drive a stickshift in his grandfather's retired military WWII Dodge Powerwagon troop carrier. It's purpose was to plow the driveway of their farmhouse.
To this day my friend (who has never owned a stick shift) is a bit amazed at how easy these syncro trans cars are to drive. He is 23 yrs old.

I need to redo my main driveway and sidewalk along the front of my property and since I'll be pouring new concrete anyway, radiant heat will be looked at seriously.
I still need to measure it out, but both are not that large (too small to justify even the smallest snow blower) so I'm thinking a couple of hundred feet of PEX run in two circuits into my basement into a manifold, a small circulating pump and a water heater, filled with 50:50 glycol/water.
wait until spring, and you should be able to pick up a 70's or 80's Chevy 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck with a slightly beat up 7 or 7.5 foot plow for $1000-$1500. right now, there are a few on the Fargo CL with modern V plows for $3000 or so- a new V plow is close to $6000 all by itself.
i'd suggest at leat a 3/4 ton truck for plow duty- the frames are stronger to take more abuse, and the axles in 1/2 ton trucks are marginal for use without a plow. i'm currently on the lookout for a decent plow to put on my 87 GMC body on a 79 3/4 ton chassis. i've got all the good stuff- the big 14 bolt rear axle, 8.5 front axle, 4:10 gears, and extra heavy duty springs since the chassis used to be a plow/tow truck for a dealership.

perhaps coated in the blood/limbs of zombies?
If only I was loaded and had a lot of garage space, I would get that thing. I'd even drive it in a light snow flurry, just because I could.

The marines bought some mog's with front end loaders and backhoes.. Now that is exactly what I want for my plow truck. The mog blower is a little small to be a really good blower. Proper blower rigs are built off Oshkosh chassis. The early 404 mog's really aren't that big.
i was in Vernal, UT in june for work. up there, they use a unimog with a water tank and extending arm to water the flowers along the city streets. serious business
Yeah, were the ad for the 'mog with the death plow not from 2009, I'd probably try and hunt it down.
73-87 chevy
plows for them are everywhere and cheap, parts are everywhere and cheap, the heaters work, and they have vent wing windows which may be the best part of the argument. plus you really can't beat a small block chevy for something that sits for months at a time, they always start right up.
as far as plowing with extended cab dually...
i have a tight driveway, but i raped my k5 plow truck for parts this summer and was left without plow truck. so i put plow on the big truck. it kinda sucks for the driveway, but would be awesome for a wide open parking lot. look for something smaller.
last thing - K5 totally blows away a jeep for plowing.
Plowing a drive way with a truck/plow is always a problem as to where t push the snow. My 15 yr old MTD 2 stage snow blower does two corner lots sidewalks plus two double with drive ways. It cost $ 700. Maintenance has been a rubber drive wheel , set of belts and a couple blower bearings. Much cheaper than a truck and plow.

But can it pull your race car, or a load of lumber from the home improvement place....or garbage to the dump?
Sometimes I do consider going with a snow blower, as my driveway isn't that huge. However, once I had the truck, it just proved itself to be too useful around the house to give up. My only wish is that the truck was an extra cab.
^^^^ This man has hit the root of my reasoning for plow truck. I figure it is the best use of my finances overall, as it satisfies nearly every purpose. Winter beater? Check. Toy/blown up car tower? Check. Lumber hauler? Check. Big enough to run over a good sized pile of zombies? Check. I've found many occasions that while the task CAN be accomplished with the ms3 or the MINI (or the Taurus with the last lowesdepot run) that doesn't mean it's the best idea. I figure a truck solves all those problems.
ford super duty dually dump truck. auto trans. 10 ft fisher plow.. 3 yard stainless swenson spreader.. thats mine. and enuff strobes on it to seize every epileptic within a 4 mile radius...
While plates and insurance would kill you, for some reason the big dump trucks with plows on them that the highway dept uses seem to always be cheap.
I did just recently buy a 4WD truck for all the reasons you are thinking about getting one, and now after getting it I'm not so sure I want to put a plow on the front. With 5 acres I think I could as easily justify the $1500-2500 a decent plow would cost me towards a tractor with loader and/or blade.
