So the muffler on the MR2 is held in place with 2 rubber insert thingies. Not hangers, but rubber spacers that fit into metal housings, specially made for the MR2 apparently. I took the muffler out, and went to put the new one in and poof! One of the rubber thingies has disappeared. It's not a tiny o-ring either, it's kinda big. There is nothing on the floor, no holes for it to fall into...where did it go? If my dog poops it out tomorrow I will be pissed!
Assuming that it wasn't shaped such that it could roll easily, your dog is a likely suspect. He may not have swallowed it, but there's no telling where he might have left it.
I can tell you exactly where you will find it:
The last place you look.
Well, of course it will be that last place you look! Why would you keep looking for it once you found it!!!
Looking for little parts like that can drive you mad when doing work / repairs, it's such an unnecessary waste of time... argh!!

Every now and then, a worm hole to another dimension will open underneath a falling part, between the car and the ground. That's the only theory that makes sense to me, anyway.
My boss refers to this phenomena as "losted." It's not just lost, it's losted and not coming back. Buy another and move on before your sanity gets losted.
you will find it.. after you buy a new one. That is the transdimensional trigger that returns lost parts to their place of origin
I dropped a screw the other day when I was working on the dirtbike. I looked everywhere for a good hour. Finally found it when I tried to roll the bike out of the way. The screw fell into the chain and ended up jamming up the chain on the sprocket. I was working on the headlight and was no where near the chain area.
Did you look inside the rear rims? Maybe it bounced?

I lost the harmonic balancer off my truck.
Never did find it. Do you think the cat ate it?

He sure isn't any better now.
I bought a replacement, but that did not make the original appear. I am thinking that once the replacement arrives and is unboxed, then it will happen. There will probably be a flash of light and a small pop as the inter-dimensional portal opens briefly. I hope my left sock comes through as well.

Is that where all my 10mm sockets have disappeared to?

tell me why I have a dozen 11mm wrenches then?
I cannot tell you how many 15mm sockets I've lost over the years. Somewhere in my car and many junkyard cars are lots of sockets...

I can't tell you how many 15mm sockets i've lost... because i've never used one.
How do you know you lost the left sock?
I didn't lose anything the last time I went to the junkyard, and in fact I found a pair of cheapie needlenose pliers in good condition!
I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket now.

Lately when I loose stuff I look for a while ......
then find it in my Left hand. :)
(Or in the case of my safety glasses, on top of my head... after I get out a new pair.)
