Lil Stampie has asked for this on his Christmas list. I had no clue there were different versions so which one do I get him? Standard, Ultimate, Deluxe?

Thanks, did some more research (starting with wtf DLC means) and decided to just splurge and do the Ultimate.
Don't... just don't.
I bought the ultimate edition on day one. It was a giant waste of money. I cannot in good conscience recommend this steaming pile to anybody.

I've been considering picking it up for the PC. Can you elaborate?
I haven't fired up my Xbox in many months, but when I did it was usually for Forza 6 or SW Battlefront. I'm also curious if 7 is worth the $?
OK, Here's a breif list:
The Homologation feature means that in single player, rally cars can only race against rally cars, muscle with muscle ect. It also makes modding the cars unnecessary, as any mods take you out of class and leave you with nowhere to race.
The teired colletor feature requires you to buy all kinds of cars you don't want just to unlock something you do.
They claim 700 cars at launch, but most of them are locked even after completing the "main quest" you have to buy random loot crates and hope you get the car you want. I spent 300,000 credits and got a miata. I was livid.
multiplayer is a charlie foxtrot, with no AI in private lobbies. THIS IS A DEALBREAKER FOR ME. it forces you into open multiplayer lobbies if you want to race with more than a few cars
So much effort was put into the driver suit feature, that literally does nothing.
Gone are the days of turning of driver assists for extra credits. The only way to bump up credits is to use limited use mod cards which, you guessd it, are only available in loot crates.
There is a competent racing game in there, but its hiding behind a lot of unnecessary BS.
3/10, would not recommend.
Also curious. Never owned an XBox and have been considering picking one up. Last time I bought a game and gaming system was a PS3 for what was then the supposedly latest/greatest Gran Turismo 5 I think? 2010ish. It basically just became a Netflix system. ;-p
My son is now 9, and a new system would probably get some mileage. Also have been curious about the latest Forza options, as I've never played, and it seems as a game franchise to have surpassed the Gran Turismo set in usage based on my poorly informed observation.
Don't get me wrong, the new dynamic weather is fantastic, and the cockpit view is actually usable this time around, but the "you're going to play exactly the way we want you to play." mentality they slap on you is oppressive.
I paid extra for early access At launch they didn't even have drag, tag, or drift modes available at all. Forzathon, auction house, leagues and a few other features were listed as "coming soon"
I used to play in 4 with my friends, building wild hill climb cars, or doing 2 on 1 police chases around the 'ring. or muscle car demo derbies on the back stretch of motegi. We would line up 15 cars with a 5 second roll off delay and run 30 laps around top gear course for some terrifying figure 8 action. we would populate a full field of hummers around the smallest track in the game and try to survive 100 laps dodging in and out of them in radical RXCs.
Forza was the playground of our twisted little imaginations. Forza has been steadily going down hill since then.
6 is still a very competent racing game, without loot boxes or useless driver gear. Also cheaper now because it's not the newest. The rain made some differences, and I was certainly impressed with it over gt4, my last real racing game.
Horizon 3 is really good if you don't want actual real life tracks, but they turned me off when ultimate edition and expensive car pack didn't give me all the cars in the game. The hot wheels track was interesting, but the winter wonderland was freaking awesome.
