Just spent some time on my Ford Truck forums. Some "kid" posted two basket-case Subarus then went on to post pics of two full-on Subarus (380whp etc.) all to prep us for the F150 he just started.
After some forensic research (hahaha) I found the REAL Subaru owners' Flickr account.
The dummy had even posted Subaru pics with AVIA fuel cans in the background... Claimed the EURO plates were for "coolness" and that he was from CT even though one of the cars plates were from Georgia.
Called him out squarely but I just don't get it.... The truck pics could well be fake too but he had a good start going there til he went haywire with stupid toolery.

That about sums it up. I had a run-in with a guy who claimed to have a JDM RHD Civic Type R he had imported. He had plenty of pictures of the outside, yet, mysteriously, none of the interior or under the hood.
These are just the current version of "that kid" you went to elementary school with, that would tell the stupidest, most easily-exposed fibs just to seem cool.

I like how he couldn't even find matching models for the before/after of his m4d tyt3 project wagon.

I meant to look really closely at that but didn't. Can you tell me what you see... I'll be glad to give credit (if you ok it) to your detective work. I did some more and found the truck on Craigslist.

This is just fun for me... Always wanted to be a Private Detective (I already AM the other word for P.I.)
I sometimes think its pointless to prove someone wrong on the internet. But I am totally guilty of doing it too.
Agreed. But like I said (and you'll understand I'm sure) I just HAD to. It's my day off and my baby was sleeping sooo I was bored!
Just e-mailed the actual owner via CL and this detective work may be saving him from a screwing. He was near a trade but with a crappy Subaru, not the one with over $7,000 into mods like was claimed. I don't know, maybe I done good?
Proving these kids are lying either 1) teaches them a life lesson about how nobody likes them, or 2) teaches them to do a better job lying next time.
Either way, it's worth pursuing. Good for the community, too. These guys are typically the scammers.

The hoods, headlights and grilles and bumpers are completely different on the two models, I'm pretty sure they're different model years, although I admit it may be possible to swap all that stuff across.
In reply to ebonyandivory:
I know what you mean. I was just E36 M3ting on some dumb people only an hour ago. haha.
Contacted the REAL owner of the Ford. He signed up on Ford-Trucks.com and posted in the thread. Pretty funny. I feel like this wasn't a waste of time now that the real owner has dealt with the toolbag and a possible trade. There's a chance it helped out.
I'd want someone to go the extra mile for me so what the heck. KARMAKARMAKARMAKARMAChameleon!

The Lego quality of Subies kept me from looking too closely. I used to get fooled by 1980's Fox Mustangs with 90's Sheetmetal
I've seen it a couple of times. Some person signs up for a web board, starts telling a big story or describing a project, and eventually things don't add up and someone else figures out the whole thing has been fabricated. It is weird, and I can't figure it out either - it's one thing to do a little embellishing on an otherwise true story, but to make it all up from scratch just seems like a lot of work.
Seller posted a nice "thank you" in the thread. It is crazy. I just can't ever imagine lying so wholesale like that. I mean, it just doesn't make any sense.
BTW, the Protege5 in my avitar has Subaru STi AWD running gear, motors' been bored and stroked to 3.4 litres, twin turbo, LSD, carbon-fiber brakes, that new magnetic Cadillac suspension and a full rollcage. Did all the work myself. Under a tree this summer. With a 120v flux-core welder and a brad-gun compressor. Check it!

That's funny! Funny cuz it IS a Craigslist pic!
The CL link was posted in my "what car" thread and I went and bought it. The PO is a photographer and had some amazing pics of it on Mazda247!

Its just trolling I think. trying to see how long you can get someone to believe your bullE36 M3.
I remember doing similar things as a kid with friends, on Windows 3.1 with AOL 3.0 chat rooms. (omg remember that it was like the birth of the internet) just berkeleying with people. It was funny to me at the time although some people would get really bent out of shape about it when we would be like "lol jk"! I am paraphrasing, I dont think lol or jk were even an accepted acronym yet.

He probably thought he was getting close to a trade. The kid probably isn't even old enough to have a car...or have gone through puberty.

I put a 2JZ-GTE in my Celica. Picked it up on craigslist yesterday morning and hand it running by 6PM. Went out last night for some street drag action. Raced a guy in a Z06 for pinks and won. It was an epic day.
