Not a bad write-up. He fits an amazing amount of stuff into the storage areas of the grips and stocks. I like the saw blade trick too but wonder how those sling studs will hold up after sawing thru a couple of branches.

Neat idea, but what does everything have to be on your gun? Also, the little tiny knife that's mounted in a useless spot is pretty silly.

Doesn't sound like you read the article. The point was to set himself a challenge (build a shotgun into a survival kit) and see what he could do with those limitations.
I don't think the knife is there to try to be a bayonet. I think that's just a convenient place for an invaluable tool.
I find the mounting of the knife and light to be silly, and they make shooting difficult as the mount partially blocks the sight bead. I'd rather carry either or both on my person, not my shotgun.
Pistol grip pumps aren't cool in the movies, not in real life. They catch on everything, break off, and hurt you if you ever make the mistake of holding it while shooting. Better would be a fabricated double chamber pump, out of say PVC.
I'm surprised he didn't work more with the stock. Particularly the width. You can put quite a bit into it, especially if it's widened on one side.
Clever saw blade mounting idea.

I like the idea and have done several of those things to my 500. But, I made my sling from a cartridge belt so I can carry a lot more ammo. I have a couple types he doesn't have. Plastic shot(works just like rock salt), Bird chaser firecracker rounds(great for chasing deer out of the garden) and just because some tear gas rounds.
And this guy's an instructor.
For a serious social shotgun, I want a ghost ring rear sight and a protected post front sight. Luminous sights - at least the front - would be good for low light situations. They won't interfere with using shot and will make it easier to hit with slugs. When it counts, I'm not likely to do much wing shooting anyway.
I would also not want to lose some of my sling every time I needed cord. Just wrap some around the stock. Wouldn't hurt the grip, either.
Pistol grips also make buttstrokes awkward. That's the knock-his-head-off-with-the-butt-of-your-weapon buttstroke, not the "Well hello there, sweetie!" kind.

When I saw the title, this is what I thought of. But why get that close. I like sniper rifles. You can hit me close, but i can hit you from 500 yards.
Then again if I'm carrying a shotgun, why not carry one that can cut someone in half.

Pshaw! All you need it this:
Anything you can kill or skin with a knife, you can accomplish faster with an AA12.
Cut down branches with a saw blade? Why? You have 00 buckshot for that!
Filter water? The AA12 can kill bacteria it is so awesome!
Who needs a flashlight? What are you afraid of with an AA12?

I think the Eliminator from Stalker: CS is supposed to be one of these. Awesome mutant-killer.

I think this is aimed for a different sort of "survival". You know, like "Oh crap, I'm lost in the woods," not "oh holy E36 M3 zombies."
I'd say he's probably more concerned with the guns ability to bring down dinner than an armed attacker.

True, but I'd say an over/under combo would be give you more options for bagging game.

Sexy, I love my SU, not too hot on the P11, the P3AT is one of the best sub-compact .380s, overall they are a good company.

Yes, this is the famed Navy duckbill. I had some friends from work that left for better opportunities. One was Navy, and one was Army. I heard some interesting stories. They told me what they were allowed. Training basically. Apparently they still couldn't talk about desert storm.
The duckbill was a favorite of the Naval Officer.

I'd say he probably chose this as a common, affordable, and easily modifiable gun for a DIY exercise he did for fun, rather that getting stressed out about what is the ideal weapon for the job.

Combining my experience with the internet and firearms, I've learned that most people that say "sniper rifle" can't hit me from 500 yards.

Like I said, neat idea but ultimately silly. I get what he was trying to do. Having the knife at the far end of your weapon? Not handy. On your belt is much better.
Also, the KSG is pretty cool.
