Motorcyclist dies in apparent Ventura County road rage incident 12:12 PM | August 11, 2009

A Ventura County motorcyclist died after being dragged 75 feet in a collision with an RV on Highway 101 in what California Highway Patrol officials described Tuesday as a road rage incident.

The motorcyclist, who was not immediately identified, was traveling south on U.S. 101 shortly after noon Monday, when he got into an altercation with the RV driver, said CHP Officer Terry Uhrich.

A witness told investigators that the motorcyclist made obscene gestures before suddenly pulling in front of the larger vehicle and slamming on the brakes, Uhrich said. The rear wheel of motorcycle got caught under the front right bumper of the RV, which lost control and slammed into the center divider, he said.

The biker, 57 was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Uhrich noted that the biker was wearing a so-called skull cap which partially covered his head but is not certified and did not provide protection in the event of collision.

No matter what helmet you have, the RV is still going to win.

Doh! I'm sorry, but that driver is a moron. This is a darwin award for sure. I mean, who drives a 300 lb vehicle and tries to dare a 30,000 lb vehicle not to hit him?

57 years old? Goes to show some people never learn. Or even grow up, apparently. It doesn't matter if the RV started the problem, the biker was an idiot.

I also note that skullcap = Harley, pretty much. I'm surprised he wasn't bareheaded.

57 years is a significant win with decision-making skills like that. That sounds like a person who might forget to breathe when thinking really hard.

some one that makes decisions like this and "thinking really hard" wouldn't usually be used in the same sentence

Guy should've taken a physics class somewhere in the last 57 years.

a truck cut me off on the interstate and I honked at him with my puny bike horn... he looked back in his mirror and flipped me off. I passed him on the right and very slowly decreased my speed to about 5 mph as we entered a one lane construction zone.

retrospectively, it was a stupid thing to do, but at the time, I was happy to slow down the shiny happy person trucker who was in such a big hurry to run over motorcyclists.

It woulda been one thing if he'd seen me and stopped, but he checked his mirrors, flipped me off, and just kept coming over till I was on the hard shoulder.

its not the first time that type of thing has happened to me on the bike. truckers just don't respect motorcyclists at all.

I cut lanes before and had some silly woman start tailing me on my bike. When I can to a stop this woman started yelling that if I can cut lanes so can she in a Rav4. I hate to break it to you, no a car isn't as manueverable as a bike, no a car cannot physically cut lanes. You ever had a car try to keep up with you doing 55mph in a 35mph in heavy traffic, crazy.

You should hear the horn on my blast, it sounds like my bike is going through puberty when I use it.

In my experience it is better to just honk or whatever and ride on. Don't look back, don't slow down, just ride on. There are so many crazies here in the SFBA that I don't want to challenge someone to kill me, they might just take it. Sometime you just have to drive on the shoulder or whatever and get away from a nasty situation, it don't matter who is right or wrong if you get crashed, either way YOU lose! If you are injured enough and cannot give an account of what happened, the police WILL assume the motorcyclist was at fault.

I think this will be ruled a suicide.
