Should we be blaming this guy?
What is he supposed to do with those "20 minute windows" of time he has between cleaning the ice?

It could have been their regular zamboni guy who had a bad day and then made a dumb choice. The rink would want it all done legally so that they could be reimbursed for the damage that he had caused.
I'm a referee, and most of my games are at the same rink (only rink within 45 miles of here). I know most of the employees of the rink pretty well. We had a new zamboni guy who was clearly bugging out on crack/coke. He zammed the ice, and we had to make him do it again because he did such a E36 M3ty job of it. Later that day (his second) he was caught with a bunch of his buddies (who had no affiliation with the rink) in the zamboni room running the thing in reverse and slamming on the brakes to see how high they could get the nose to lift. Yeah, he was fired on the spot. I heard the rink manager yelling from about 100 feet away.

I know this is rhetorical, but should I actually answer this? Also, it is more like 50-70 minute windows unless the place has two sheets of ice.

yeah, I was just messing around with this story........every once in a while they catch a local school bus driver drunk since they too didn't know what to do with that 5+ hour window they have to kill between the morning and afternoon run. (hey, might as well have a drink until I go back to work) LOL
