Hey GRM!
Desperately seeking assistance with selecting a universal muffler for a custom center exit that's suitable for both street and occasional HPDE usage on n/a rotary vehicle.
To be installed on my 2009 s2 RX8 with oem cat and I'd prefer to keep sound levels below 92 dB but can accept up to 103 dB limit if necessary for local home track sound compliance. I'm located in Monterey, CA and looking for reputable speed shops that can take on the fabrication and any related details.
Any direct experience, helpful ideas or suggestions would be greatest appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Well after some thought, it occurred to me to check out what Mazdatrix has to offer. It looks like they have a couple Racing Beat mufflers that will potentially fit the bill. Just have to decide if the 3.0" or 3.5" is most appropriate. Hoping to find a muffler shop that can vband all my exhaust components. I will say that it's disappointing RB or MT do not include any technical info related to these products (ie: real life tests under specific conditions, etc).

ps- original plan with my old shop was to fit a Tomei universal Ti muffler but same issue with no technical info so I figure it's best to opt for the rotary specific shop products.
I've used DynoMax UltraFlo stainless steel muffler, part number 17267 on rotary cars in the past with decent success. As long as it's out back at the end of the system, it should work pretty well. 3" inlet and outlet, polished SS and the price is right at about $100.
Looks promising. Thank you!

Center exit can really limit the size of the muffler that will fit. I ended up with a Spintech 180 deg muffler (inlet/exit on the same end) on my KSwap Miata. I'm also hoping to keep it under 95dB. I haven't fired it yet, but these mufflers are keeping V8 sprint cars under sound limits at CA tracks, so I'm hopeful.
That looks great. I'll have to check out their product line. Thanks for the input!
This what I recommend if you want to keep a rotary quiet. It works pretty good. That rotary shape muffler is just for looks.
