I would like to re visit Indy cars. They were such a mess in PC that I think I need to giv them another chance.
The lotus F1 car we raced was good fun. Much less of a handful than I expected. It ended up being good fun at Spa.

I like this idea. But not Bathurst.
If we are doing it, announce well in advance, I need some serious practice to tame that F1 car.

We can re visit things again.
I am having second thoughts about the luxo barge cars. They are fun to a point then get kind of old. I was thinking a single make race with the 300SRT could be a good time. Maybe then swap over to the Jags or something . Do a couple short races with those.
I also need to start looking at BTC cars and see what kind of a car pack we can assemble
Oh while I am thinking the 300SRT looks to only have one livery. This is a prime opportunity for Air to work his magic.
Another bit of testing I was going to do was to lump together a bunch of Miatas and see if we can sort out a group of them that we like.

I uploaded the BTCC pack to the test folder. Its this one http://assettomods.com/btcc-mod-v2-0-march-2020/
Do we still want to do the luxo's next week? If not, I can put the Indy cars in the test folder and we can use the BTCC cars next week. Are there any of the Luxo's we should save, or just clear the all out?
I suspect the Indy cars are pretty tame compared to the lotus, driving wise.
I vote spec Miata again. If we could get all 9 or 10 people on VIR south, that would be pretty great.
FYI, I'm out for this coming week (12 May). I have to hit the road at 0dark30 on Thursday, so it needs to be an early night.
Did some poking around with the Indy Cars. They are super tunable (e.g. every gear can be adjusted). There are liveries for all the drivers from 2019. Indy (4 versions) is of course available and seems like a good model. So those are good to go when we want to try them. Messing with tuning could take a long time if you want to try and get every last tenth of a second out of them.
One question: The road courses (at Indy) run counter clockwise. In GT they always ran clockwise. Which is correct? Did it change?
I may test some tonight. I will look at the Indy and BTC cars. I for now leave the luxo cars up as they are what is on the server. If I change up the server I will let you know and you can swap things around as needed in the folder.
The Indy cars are in the test folder. The two files (Assetto_Apex and apex_indycar) are the cars and the liveries. The track, 4 variations, (indi_all) is up there also. The livery file is of course HUGE, and appears to be the 2020 drivers.
They are probably slightly tricky to drive at slow speed, but they can't be that bad since I can make it around the track with a controller.
Ok BTCC cars are now up on the server and I changed the Google drive so that only the BTCC cars are in the main directory and all the other luxo cars are back in the test folder. These BTCC cars I think are going to be good fun. There is a bit of everything. FWD, RWD and AWD. These are quick cars with lots of stick. I think we should race these this coming week and then look at the Indy cars as something for after these cars.
The luxo cars are fun and there are some interesting differences but I am not sure that we should do a whole race night with them. Maybe a one off race or two and do a spec race with one make. But in the end they are big heavy high HP cars that are punishing if you make a mistake. Maybe we do some more group testing this Wednesday with them before we tear up the track with the BTCC cars.
The indy cars I have yet to test. Maybe we can test those as well this Wednesday.

So... tuesday?
In reply to ProDarwin :
I can try, but I'm eyeball-deep in end of semester business. Grades have to be completed and submitted before I leave, and last exams don't come in until Tuesday.

I'm gone for a while, so if I can't make it tomorrow you won't see me in-game until 26 May at the earliest.
I am partial to the Honda, Alpha, and the focus. All very fast with slight handeling differences. The Audi is also very fast but for some reason does not inspire me. Same for the Toyota. The BMW will step out on you really easy making it not so fun.
To expand on the above.
The Honda has a fantastic turn in and is "ok" for corner exit
The Ford is "ok" for turn in but is really good coming out of the corners.
The Alpha is better then "ok" on both turn in and exit. The Alpha is the average of the Honda and the Ford if that makes sense.
I may be around for some test and tune tonight if anyone is around.
That was some good racing last night. I was really tired towards the end and was missing brake points. Thanks to everyone that joined in.
Good fun. Some of the fields are getting tight enough that longer races might start becoming feasible.
I had a good time, thanks for tolerating my slow self. Things got a lot easier once I switched away from the BMW!
We probably do want to trend toward wider tracks when running the Spec Pinata's. It's hard to give up a good run to get in line for a narrow turn. That three wide into the first turn was pretty crazy. I didn't want to give up my great launch, and thankfully whomever was outside decided it wasn't worth it. I actually got to the point I was so sandwiched between the two cars I had no steering!
That said, I think the Pinata's are probably the best cars to practice side by side racing with, which is WAY easier with HeliCorsa than trying to keep track of people by memory like we had to in GT and PC! An interesting thing we could try is a parade / rolling start lap for the first lap. That will allow us to practice close quarters driving a bit.
I do have another interesting thing we can try at some point, but I do need to test to see what kind of track to use. When we do eventually do the Indy cars (probably closer to Indy) it could be an interesting chance to play with minor tuning on the big track. They are rather easy to drive on the big track, but getting the last mph of speed will take some careful tuning. Drafting could be interesting also.
