So I think the lesson with Monte Carlo is to slow down to go fast. I was pretty disappointed with my stages, they were sloppy and twice I had to be recovered (one flopping over the outside of a hairpin and the other a lazy spin out of a hairpin that got me stuck). I even had an Austin Powers moment sideways between two walls going back and forth to get straightened out. The sections of pure ice and clean asphalt were easiest, the in between was a challenge. Also trying to make up lost time just results in more lost time.

But, I just looked at the results and I'm leading the rally! So for anyone else attempting the DLC championship at Monte Carlo just slow down, keep it clean and moving in the right direction and you will do very well.

Slow Down, go fast.

Adam

I should have taken this advice- I beefed it a great many times, and probably had at least one Austin Powers per stage.  I also really wonder if you could get away with tarmac tires instead of snows for any stages, I was too chicken to try it.

I'd spend half of a stage at Monte Carlo with the throttle pinned in like 5 gear just pointlessly spinning the tires before I would remember that it was faster to use a lower gear and much less throttle.  Then I would inevitably mess up a corner and trying to catch up go back to the full throttle nonsense again.

Well no idea how I pulled it off but no DNFs on the group B race.  Pretty sure fear kept me slow enough to not crash.  2 flats though and the car is toast!  Now to GT on ice.  What could possibly go wrong

Even more shocked I made it through RGT.  Nobody else must have been brave (stupid) enough to pick the heavy lumbering brute of the mustang but I found that it fits my driving style well.  Sluggish handling responses means I was never surprised by it twitching to one side and off a cliff.  3rd gear was instant wheel spin out of hairpins.  That was fun in the snow.

Finished both club's events yesterday. I think I tend to drive fairly conservatively, but man, Adam is somehow consistent AND driving at a pace that would be too risky for me! You should upload your run so I can learn from you Adam! (Provided your GPU can take the extra load)

RGT was fun.  First time I have ever driven snow in the game, lots of pucker moments.  And now I see the Austin Powers references lol.

I could keep pace/win segments on the pavement, but kept making silly mistakes.  In the snow I was surprised as I thought I had a pretty damn good pace and was driving clean yet I was falling behind by several seconds per segment.

The completely blind corners (for the most part) in that event were a new challenge.

Doh! I completely forgot to go back and finish out the New England stages.

Fugaku i agree, seeing Adam's runs would be super cool

I'll see what I can figure out for the replays.

This next round without any service should be fun, at least the night stages come first so we'll start with headlights.

Anyone know if there is a way to create an event where you get multiple shots at the same route?  Like a time trial?  Might help some of us slower guys repeat and try some things, and also maybe people can share some videos/tips.

You can create your own championship under free play and choose all the settings for it. If you want you can even stack the same stage over and over again with a service in between each so you can try different tires or suspension changes.

Yeah, you can do that with Time Trial as well.  I was just wondering if you could do the same with the multiplayer functionality... so we would all see each others splits and whatnot.

Ug was hoping to knock both series out.  Instead life hit both times and I had to retire.   Computer and VR working great this time just some really bad timing.   Welp there's always next week.

Question for the long event:  I know there is no service, does that mean no tire changes?

Anyone have any tips for setting up the old rwd cars?  I tried driving the escort in the past and that thing will snap around on me in a an instant.  I usually loosen the rear bar a tad and unlock the rear diff some on braking, but that doesn't always work.  Maybe its a travel issue?

In reply to ProDarwin :

Correct, you can only swap to your spare(s) so no real changes.

You seem to have the right idea for how to make the rwd stuff handle a bit better.  Have you tried the Opel?  I think it's more predictable than the Escort.

Wow, my tires were absolutely toast starting stage 3.  Felt like I was on Monte Carlo again.  Managed to keep it fairly clean until about 70% thru Stage 4, then I couldn't get slowed down for a sharp right hander and blew out two tires.

Made it to about the halfway point of Australia ss4 and got terminal damage clipping a fencepost at 80mph- it was fun until then, though!

Kept it pretty clean again using the little Renault, the key once again is to keep it on the road moving in the right direction over trying to go as fast as possible. Make sure to put the hard compound tires on at the start so there's something left at the end.

If someone wants to give me a quick rundown on recording my runs I'll give it a shot (which will probably lead to me crashing).

Ugh, that was awful.  I was at least a minute behind on every stage.  On stages 2, 3 and 4 I somehow spun the car and ended up in an Austin Powers situation where instead of being jammed, my nose was pointed into the wall and the back was pointed over the edge of a cliff, so turning around was tricky.  Twice I ended up hanging my rear bumper on the edge of the embankment and it kept my rear wheels from touching the ground.  I never used the recover, but i probably should have as I must have wasted a combined 2 minutes in those positions lol

Just did the first Sweden stage.  So this is what driving blind is like.

The track is white.  The "walls" are white.  Everything is white.  And there is white stuff falling, and white fog.

Well Australia didn't go well. Broke my headlights in SS2 and couldn't see anything about 1/3 of the way through SS3 and had to retire.

Sweden on the other hand, SS1 i slid into a bank 2 segments in and blew both right tires. Had to fix both of those and was way behind at the end. Made up tiny bit of time in SS2 and then somehow made up more and more time in SS3 and SS4. Somehow i managed to end up in the lead for now.

Well, E36 M3 E36 M3 E36 M3 E36 M3 E36 M3

I was so far ahead.  Then 30 seconds into SS4 I blew two tires on my left side.  I only had one spare, so I did the rest of the course on 3 tires.  I still set a fast time on one of the segments lol, so I'm guessing others had tire problems as well.

Now to wait for adam to show up and beat me by 10 minutes.

I just finished.   I sniped you at the end.   I struggled so much in the first two stages.   Daytime with snow was near blinding in VR.   Once night time hit though I made up a ton of ground.  I still entered the last stage 50 seconds behind Darwin.   Had a really really good drive there and took the overall for now.
