Since I have yet to procure the funds for an Xbox One, I decided to pull out some games I haven't played in a long time (I'm not one to get rid or trade in games).
So I decided to play Driver: San Francisco and I forgot how fun this game was. The storyline was goofy but not horrible, but all the extra challenges are pretty fun and get more and more challenging as you move on. Yeah some of the physics blow, but it's meant to have chase movie style fun.
They even did a damn good job with the cars. The details are great, when the San Fransisco map is done somewhat well. The graphics in general aren't bad.
I think it's time for a new one and I wouldn't be opposed to Ubisoft and Reflections making another one.
So somehow the last one I played was parallel lines and have not played San Francisco yet. I guess I know what I'm ordering from amazon immediately.
I played driv3r like crazy. Parallel lines was good but I didn't get into it like I did 3.
I haven't played one since the original for ps1, I loved that game. Will have to get one for 360.
Personally I'd rather see a new Interstate '76. Driver was good though.
I bought the soundtrack for Interstate 76 when it came out - had to email the company to get it. It's fun.
Had Driver for PS1 or PS2 too, it was fun.
I dug out sports car gt the other day and gave it a run on an old PC. Lots of fun. The graphics were poor by today's standards but the physics are still some of the best even compared to today's games
A remake of i76 would be fantastic. I always figured rockstar games could make it happen. Environment from red dead redemption, add some paved roads and cars with weapons.....
I haven't played a Driver game since Driver 2 on the original Playstation. I loved it at the time, but then GTA III came out and made that game completely obsolete. I also somehow have a copy of the original Driver game brand new and sealed in the package.
Another similar game that was huge at the time was The Getaway on the PS2. Remember that one?
Driver was amazing I agree GTA made it obsolete in some ways. But Driver had a certain feel to it. Also the original Road Rash series needs to be remade.
i think i still have The Getaway somewhere.
I agree GTA did so much more than Driver, but Driver had its own feel. And the crash physics were entertaining enough you could just spend hours coming up with ridiculous wrecks to watch replays of in slow motion (in Driver3 at least). I had 1 on pc, probably still have the disc somewhere, I played 2 on PS1 briefly but never owned it.
GTA4 was probably the closest in similarity to driver with vehicle physics, a bit exaggerated, a bit loose. GTA5 sort of tightened up the handling of the vehicles. And GTA is still behind driver for vehicle wrecks IMO.
Spent several hours playing Driver SF yesterday. Its pretty legit, you really feel the weight of the vehicles when driving.
I kind of miss the aspect of being able to get out of the vehicle, but that was never implemented that well in the Driver series anyways. The shift feature is neat, and makes for some interesting solutions for completing missions, but it doesn't allow you to get out of a vehicle and have it stay in one spot. Or get out of several vehicles and leave them all in one spot. For maximum vehicular carnage.
I remember in Driver 3 there was a drawbridge you could get out of the car and activate with a switch. I would steal cars and just line them all up on the bridge, and then flip the switch and let it dump the cars back to the ground like a slow motion pileup. I spent way too much time doing that. Haha.
I do still have Driver 3 for xbox, and The Getaway for PS2. My PS2 is currently dead but I'll get another at some point.

The Getaway was a pretty awesome game! I would love to see either it remade for current-gen consoles, or another game in the series.
