Something like the Kawi looks easy enough. Lower it a bit, street tires etc.

Worth the effort? If you had to change the rear sprocket, would it have enough oomph for street use?

That Kawi is a road bike.

Mild 2 strokes are no problem. The more high strung ones don't like to cruise well.

The Kawasaki in your picture appears to be a street legal bike already. The problem with trying to put that PE Suzuki in the middle picture on the street is it was an offroad vehicle from the factory - getting a title for it will be tough, chances are if your local DMV plugs in the serial numbers it won't come up on their system as a valid street bike. The Ossa may be a street legal bike as well, but I'm not well versed on them.

Besides, isn't that essentially what Motards are - MX bikes with street tires?

If you want a 79 Honda XL250s (with title) let me know.

My uncle gave me his, unfortunatly it sat outdoors for 20 years and the motor is seized. Thought about it as a project, but its too much for me for now.

One of my friends has a kx500 that is street legal. He just had to hang the mirrors and lights on from a KLR or something I think and the stator is different. Then he changed the gearing and he can do around 100mph, mostly on one wheel, which is a DOT approbed knobby.

I just bought (and sold) this bike - I didn't get the supermoto wheels or brakes. It had a street title in Ohio - the previous owner said that he just took the title to the BMV and told the lady that the off road only should not be shown as it was now a street bike. She did it.

He had added a larger stator to run the lights, a guage that had speedo, tach and water temp, a light package made for a XR650, small mirrors and a bike horn. He also added a catch bottle for the radiators, breather tube for the crank case larger front sprocket and a vented front fender.

Never got to ride it, but it looked fun. Still have the big tank for sale.

Honda XLs look like excellent candidates. There's some nice builds on the interwebs. I have a XL250 sitting in the corner of the shed I been itchin' to get to.

I'd consider something along these lines as a street tracker. I've seen better w/ cast wheels, disc brakes and fork swap... I'll keep a lookin'.

Something like this?

If this were closer, I would consider it as a good starting point -

I'd totally enjoy that. It would probably stink for extended rides, but for short & medium range it should be a blast. Who knows, I could be completely wrong about it long range comfort since so many people use XR600s as desert bikes.

Same here. Whenever I can get my TL sold, its replacement will be an air cooled, carbed, thumper. Simple. I like simple. I may do something cool and stylish like this build, or I may keep it ugly and just ride ride ride.

(Of course, I also really want a KX500 motard, just because that would be completely mental.)

Sometimes it is better to convert a streetbike into a dirtbike

this is not one of those times:

KX1000 DIRTBIKE

2001 KZ1000 Police Bike converted to KX1000. Can be used as Zombie Killer vehicle or whatever. Comes with winch, pro-taper handlebars, bark busters, new knobbies and vise.
