Take that Road King out for a ride, and I never know how many hundreds of miles away I might find myself. Hour after hour, and I'm still comfortably sitting astride it, watching the world unfold.
The other day, as I was riding god knows where, I found myself thinking about what it is I so like about this bike, and how could I describe it. Dancing came to mind. Seemed strange at first, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I dearly love a bike that reflects my taste in dance.
I'm a lover of ballroom dancing. From a simple waltz to a tango that can make you cry. That's my type of dancing.
Done with a partner responds and anticipates you. Dignified, passionate, with no untoward flailing. Swooping and swaying, together, never violent or out of control.
That's what I love about this Road King. She can dance. A light press of my fingers, and she swoops. A rock of my hips and she sways in rythm. This isn't a mere motorcycle, it's a two wheeled dancing partner. And we dance together to the same music.
So, does your taste in bikes and rides reflect your dance preferences? I suspect it will.
I dunno about dancing, but to me it's the difference between a Lexus and a Lotus.
I primarily dance L.A. style dancing (on 1). Compared to other styles of salsa, L.A. is a bit reserved and conservative, just like my SV650. My personal dancing style is a bit coarse, just like the SV's V-twin. My objective isn't to be the fastest or most impressive; rather, I just want dance partners who want to joke around and have fun throughout the song.
Wonder what kind of bike I would need if I danced like this?

Loud. Clunky. Thumpy.
Obviously a Harley of some sort.
As for myself: I am a dancer. I do blues, swing, and tango. I'm particularly given to hybridizing styles. My favorite is very expressive and dynamic partner dances. Not big and flashy. Usually alternating slow smooth with sudden bursts. I guess that fits with my Street Triple, since it is quite dynamic.
And yeah, riding a motorcycle is totally like dancing.

KLR or a old Bultaco. Vintage hill climbs and flat tracking dominate your thinking.
And, ah, we learned that kind of dance in elementary school.
I can't dance. Probably why I had a KLR.
Both the KLR and the Wee are more 'industrial'. They are a tool to get a job done. I don't think they are probably dance partners in the sense you describe. I do understand what you are saying, though. Not really any different than what a good autocross car can accomplish with a driver that fits it's style. Maybe one day I can find a bike that does that.
(The vision of Foxtrapper dancing is one that is difficult to get in my brain, however. And not sure I want it there.)
So if you ride liter bikes does that mean you like a dance partner that holds a gun to your head and a knife to your throat?
So this is more typical of KLR / Strom dancing?

I literally just watched that episode last night. It's probably in my top 5 now.

Dirty club dancing after taking a line of cocaine off of a toilet seat.
