Almost finished .......
I painted the fenders, side covers, tank and seat in a 2008 Porsche grey metallic, then a coat of clear. The stripes are vinyl, not my first choice. I tried a Porsche red, like oxblood - maroon, and then tape off the stripe and shoot grey over it. Too much for me.
My original plan was a rattle can,. so this is wicked better!
New windshile from Clearshields, the seat was cut from 4" thick to 2" thick and recovered by Sargent. The stocker was kinda curved and uncomfotable, this one is chopped with a bum stop and works well.
The Bike: 1976 BMW R-90. The Bing carbs have been replace with flat slide Mikunis. The stock pipes have been "liberated" and work well, souind nice. The stock fender fasteners have been replaced by 1/4 - 20 stainless acorns. The shocks/springs have been replaced with progressives.
I hate to say it, but I like this better than my RT-1100.
For boot scooting around town, I have a matching pudding bowl hat and goggles.
I'm such a dork.
Very nice. I have been tempted by your bike pics before... one of these days I'm going to drag a mess of an old BMW home and try something of this ilk.
I will blame you when it fails miserably.
You're not helping me in missing airheads since leaving my old shop that specialized in old BMWs.
Nice looking bike, man.
Holy E36 M3!
Where did you find a '77-'79 R100RS solo seat cowl? Those are incredibly rare.
In 1985 I got a '75 R90/6 bought w/ the requisite Shoei windjammer clone fairing, saddle bags, trunk, Reynolds ride-off centerstand,Lester mags, giant foam grips and cruise control. It lost all of that junk and got freshened up and Euro S bars. Eventually I got a full mismatched set of R90-R100 S bodywork for it.
Then around 1988 I got an '83 R100RS. It had all the usual go-fast stuff done to it - Del'Ortos, Konis, stuff in the fork, a brace, SS lines, etc. Tiring of baking and going deaf behind the RS fairing (which I'm sure is perfect in Bavaria) I swapped on an S fairing.
I kept it 'til 2 years ago, sold it for more than I'd bought it for 22 years prior, and kept the RS fairing as the new owner couldn't afford it AND the bike.
Recently, my sisters significant other can no longer ride his 1984 R100RT. He's owned it since new and loved it dearly 'til the alzheimers made him forget he had it. It's berkeleying tragic that he'll not ride it again. So, at some point this summer I'm venturing to Ohio to bring it home where I'll disassemble it, clean everything thoroughly, new seals and rubber parts, and fresh paint on the RS fairing to match the Spheric Silber of the original RT bodywork.
And I'll have a brand new, bone stock 1984 R100RS, again.
