There's one parked near our building and it caught my eye.
Have they been out for a while? looks like available in a 500 and 750. thoughts?
They have been out a few years now. IIRC, they're built in India and feature liquid cooled engines that share like zero DNA with the rest of their lineup. They've been kind of a sales flop too I think.
In reply to Furious_E:
US-market bikes are built in KC, Missouri.
The rest of your post is pretty spot-on.
I have heard one in person. Not impressed. Doesn't sound like a Harley or even a Japanese V-Twin. Very odd sounding
The motor is loosely based on V-Rod architecture. They are 4V SOHC, whereas the VRSC is DODC. They have a 6 speed (VRSC is 5). They are built in KC--the bikes built in India are for the Asian markets.
The weigh under 500 lbs. wet, and have more suspension travel than the XL's. The 16's are nicer in a number of ways than the 15's.
The bike sounds like a VRSC with a good pipe. There are cafe style bars etc. right through the H-D catalog.
They look nice and on paper they seem like they should be good but mostly got panned for being milquetoast. Which makes sense, really. At $7500 for a Street 750 you are in Yamaha FZ-09 territory - same upright seating position and a whole order of magnitude more motor, brakes and handling.
HD seems to have been aiming at the performance envelope of a 15yr old Nighthawk 750 and if so, hit that nail square on the head
The Bolt is $8K and the FZ09 is $8.2K...are you suggesting that Yamaha shouldn't make Bolts as well?
In reply to FSP_ZX2:
I had never heard of the Bolt, but now that I have... yes. They should stop making it. In fact, all motorcycles that I do not approve of should be scrapped starting immediately.
In reply to RealMiniParker: So, basically a repeat of what AMF did when they owned H-D. Rebadged small Benelli's as Harleys.
Personally think they just look wrong. It's like an imitation of the the early Japanese brand cruisers who were trying to imitate Harleys... The Street series has potential the factory XG750R looks pretty good to me (though probably only appeals to a very small subset of bikers)

You can get one that is fully sorted since 2015... just with a different label and better motor:
The Street model looks best as a scrambler more than anything but hard to resist a Triumph Scrambler.
While I like the bonneville T100 and the scrambler, I think Harley has the edge in the looks department with the flat tracker.
It just looks meaner and more sporty.
That flat tracker is hot and sexy. Slap a front brake and some discreet lights on it and I'd take a second look. I sort of liked the look of the XR1200 when it came out, but not enough to buy one. I ended up with a Bonneville T100. I think Harley's problem is that they are still clinging too tightly to their core demographic. These bikes seem to be styled to appeal to the people who really aspire to be one of black leather and fringes crowd, but can't quite afford it. Those guys probably just buy one of the many bigger air cooled bikes available used. I think that's the reason they don't seem to be selling many. At least, I haven't seen any out on the road. I still think Buell was the path to broader market, but apparently it wasn't...
On a related note, I was really hoping Indian was going to come out with a sporty standard using the Scout nameplate. Similar problem...
