Planning a weekend road trip! Chicago->St Louis->Galena->Elgin

Should be fun if the weather stays nice! Leaving next Friday (the 26th) from work.

I want to do as much of old non-I55 Route 66 as I can til I get near the Illinois River, then following the river and the Stagecoach Trail as long as I can (still mapping) down to St Louis.

Then leaving St Louis north along the mighty Mississippi on the Great River Road up to Galena, and then as close as I can to the Galena-Chicago railway, ditching it in Elgin to head back home.

It'll be a nice warmup practice for the eventual X-across-the-US trip I want to do. :)

Any GRMers in the St Louis area want to do dinner on Saturday, 4/27?

I should be free at some point on the 27th.

If I didn't commit to being in Springfield (puke) on Saturday I was going to try to go that weekend as well. If you see a blue 10ae Miata with a hardtop around Bloomington, be sure to wave!

If you can work it into your route, stop at Rips Chicken in Ladd, Il (just west of Lasalle Peru). Best fried chicken. Ever.

So what do you want for dinner?

Tires arrived today. I went with the Pirelli Sport Demons.

Now I am off to buy a couple new batteries for my phone and see if I can change one of my powerlets to usb.

Things got all f'ing wonky in my life. So, rescheduled to leave Friday, May 10. Sperlo, mtn, you guys free that weekend?

Hmmm... Definite maybe. I need to get to STL sometime this month, but that is Mother's Day weekend. So I'll probably be heading back to the Chicago suburbs for Sunday.
