Wife wants to move up to my 05 Suzuki C50. So She says it's okay for me to buy a replacement bike....So i go looking for a sub $3000 used bike that if she wanted to ride she could so we can swap on long rides. So thought okay I like big twins, Need to be Standard / upright position ( i can't do the money humping a gas tank anymore). We look don't find anything that SCREAMS buy me now that i like in my price range.

We have a week long trip planed to Canada with 5 others. Asked a friend if he know of any bikes in my price range he pops back with "why yes i do my 02 DL1000 V-strom is for sale with 3 hard Givi bags" Oh..i said. But figure i should keep looking I'm not keen of fairings and well there butt ugly if you look at them but from riding point there nice. So while looking i can across a ZXR1100 that i want! but its $1000 more and has no bags...But i can see myself enjoying it every dry day. Oh what to do.... Wish i could get them both....

If I found a DL1000 for sale in that price range... well, the way I see it is that you can't really see what the V-strom looks like when you're sitting on it.

Well it is a friends and has a rebuilt title, however it was a light rebuild and he's had it 2 years and this past summer went to Ca and back on it. One thing i know i'd change is it's black..I like Bright color bikes less of the I didn't see him excuse.

An SV1000 or a Bandit 1200?

A friend has the V-Strom with the Givi bags and trunk. It is a very nice ride and he can pack plenty for a long trip. For that price, I would jump on it. Besides, when you're riding, it's the comfort not the looks that count!

Give me the number of the guy with the V-Strom! That is the steal of the year and the only thing I would want to ride across Canada on for $3000!

Yeah, that's a deal on the V-Strom. I'd jump on that, personally. But you'll be able to find a ZRX11/1200 in your price range without trouble - probably won't come with bags, though, since that wasn't a terribly popular accessory.

No fairing allowed. It does make it tougher, but 44 knows what he likes.

What about a Hooligan bike? Get a sport bike, remove the plastic, put on motocross bars and you've got a hot standard.

Nothing wrong with fairings, they keep your helmet visor a little cleaner and increase your gas mileage on the freeway.

I've got it narrowed down to 2 finalist and a maybe if i can find one... ZXR1100 (1st year model and low milage, personal bike of the local dealer) DL1000 (02 freinds bike whom i'd trust with my life) Moto Guzzi ( yet to be found in price range)

I still need to make the 4 hour ride up to test out the DL but can't do it for another week or so as weekends book up fast for us.

I think you'll enjoy the Zrex more.
