I've my grandfather's 71-M snap on 1/2 drive ratchet built in 1942 seems gummed up so I am wanting to take the head apart and clean it. Just wondering what the best grease or lube for it would be?

The kind you have a tub of laying around.

Any old #2 EP wheel bearing/chassis grease. Just a light coat on the ratchet wheel teeth and pawls, go heavy everywhere else though, helps to keep the dirt out.

You're overthinking this. There probably weren't a lot of choices in 1942.

Amsoil Dominator. I put that E36 M3 on everything.

I usually manage to drop mine in the oil change bucket at least once a year. It never gets gummed up and always works smooth as butter.
