The Toybaru hasn't hit the highway in a few months.  We are thinking a road trip to Minnesota to wander around the state for a week.  Mid September.

We do cities for special things, but mostly rural/nature sightseeing.

What does the hive recommend as must see places?

Ayyyyye. I'm fixing to be there next week. Because y'know, I used to live there.

You'll miss the State Fair. That's sad.

Check out Matt's Bar in Minneapolis. Order a Jucy Lucy. Bring cash. Anyone that tells you the 5-8 is better is a liar and should be brought up on charges.

Obviously the Mall of America, if you wish to worship at the ultimate altar of Consumerism.

Minnehaha Falls will be gorgeous this time of year, and is free, aside from parking. Tons of walking trails, and some cool historical markers.

Taylors Falls WI is about two hours outside the cities- and will be lovely this time of year as well. I haven't been in a very long time, but we used to do my family reunion there.

Duluth MN is a great place to check out a ton of nature, not nature, and other MN themed things and is straight north on 35. There's lots of camping options and stuff out there if you're into that sort of thing, and the weather should be plenty cool at night.

Back in the cities, a walk around any of the lakes is always a good look. Plenty of old architecture, nature, etc to look at. Nokomis, Bde Mka Ska (calhoun) Harriet, etc. Most of the outdoor sites themselves close up shop on labor day so a lot of it won't have rentals or anything, but there's still lookin' around to do.

If you head east just across the river to Ellsworth WI, you can go to the Ellsworth Creamery and get the worlds best cheese curds, fresh out of the cow. They're literally still warm from processing.

The Duluth to Hibbing drive is one of my favorites but it's easily a few hours way north. (3+?)

Near Bloomington right off the exit is a ski jump - just looking at it makes you think about your knees.

I travel Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan for part of my sales territory.  Every summer when I'm on the road I tell myself I need a boat.....(Duluth into Lake Superior on an early September evening)

Purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka .

Thinking we have to do SR61 from Duluth to Grand Marais, then take Gunflint Trail up toward Poplar Lake.  We are seeing there is a lot to see in the state.
