Looking to build your very own C5 Corvette track car and need some inspiration? Look no further than the three that are currently entered in the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports–not including our very own C5 project car, of course.
Since the last time we saw Ben Grambau’s 2001 Corvette, it has received a SADEV six-speed sequential gearbox, a Motec ECU that supports flat shifts, and a tune that offers more than 100 extra horsepower on tap–for a total of 480 horses.
Thee 2022 UTCC won’t be Scott Blair’s first, but it will be his first UTCC behind the wheel of this ’99 Corvette. The C5 is still running its stock engine, though Blair says its greatest strengths are horsepower, torque, weight balance and grip.
Not to be outdone, the LS6 in Taylor Ramey’s C5 from 2000 makes 376 horsepower thanks to an upgraded cam. Combine that with a rear wing, front splitter and hood vents for help in the aero department, and it’s easy to see why Ramey says the car is well balanced.
What is the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition. The only rule is that car and driver must pass a NASA safety inspection.

The 2022 UTCC returns to Virginia International Raceway May 13-14 in the center of NASA’s HyperFest weekend.
The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Grassroots Motorsports in association with Wilwood Engineering, CRC Industries, DeatschWerks, HP Tuners, SPA Technique and Volkswagen, with trophies from BimmerWorld, XS Power Batteries, The Sensor Connection, Track Advantage, Stifflers and Hoosier Tire.
