Looking at the wild Subaru 360 at our PRI booth, you might not understand how something could be built for less than $2000. Let us explain.
Read the full build thread for the Subaru–dubbed the "LMP360" by its creator Daniel Cummings–here in our forum: Nocones Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge Presented by Tire Rack build thread.
More of a visual learner? We have a video you can watch, too:
Thanks so much for the opportunity to display the car. It's such an honor to have my build share the show floor with some of the other builds there.
The car has evolved somewhat from the challenge. The big change is the seat covers are finally done. Stop by and check it out if you're at PRI.
Also sorry for the less then fantastic photo quality. My phone apparently struggles with the lighting in the hall.
PRI was pestering me via email for months to come to the show. I declined. (For this year). If I had known that the LMP360 was going to be there that would likely have changed my mind.
In reply to nocones :
The seat covers look awesome, and thank you for working with us on this project.
In reply to spitfirebill :
And thank you, Daniel, for making it happen.
Morning traffic has been rather busy.

Our eyes are still way better than any camera sensor at resolving images. What looks like decent lighting to our eyes is often kinda dark to an image making device. AI is helping to some degree but accuracy goes down with that approach because it's just making educated guesses not recording reality.
PS. Those seat covers are great. Interesting and unexpected. Which is pretty much what I love about the whole car. :-)
I'll have more in the build thread on my PRI experience but huge thanks to Tom/Nicole and everyone from GRM for hosting the car in the show. It was really interesting seeing all the reactions and interest in a car that was likely the lowest cost in the event. Huge respect to GRM for making the choice and commitment to this end of the hobby. I think we opened eyes to what is possible and hopefully introduced the challenge to some new people.
At dinner I had a chance to check IG and saw a link to this IG post by Larry Chen.
I have followed Larry for a while on social media and have a huge amount of respect for what he has achieved. When I started this build I never thought it would lead me to PRI and inclusion on a list like that.
This has been quite the fall for Nocones and the LMP360.
Typical view of LMP360 for past 3 days.
