Where can you find some of the closest, bumper-to-bumper, door-banging racing around? Look no further than the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires, which just announced its 2024 schedule.

Most notably for 2024, the series makes its first return to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park since 2016, and Sebring International Raceway since 2021.

The full 2024 schedule is as follows:

  • Rounds 1+2: Daytona International Speedway, January 24-26 (Rolex 24 at Daytona)
  • Rounds 3+4: Sebring International Raceway, March 13-15 (12 Hours of Sebring)
  • Rounds 5+6: WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, May 10-12
  • Rounds 7+8: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 7-9
  • Rounds 9+10: Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, July 12-14
  • Rounds 11+12: Virginia International Raceway, August 23-25
  • Rounds 13+14: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, October 9-11 (Petit Le Mans)

The 2024 schedule is a balance of continuity and striving to be on the largest stages possible,” Mazda Motorsports Program Manager Jonathan Applegate said. “To have a spec series race at Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta is special and shows how popular the series has become.”

Of all the racing I watched over the course of Petit Lemans weekend, MX-5 Cup was some of the best from a spectator's point of view. Extremely close field, lots of passing, bump drafting, 3-wide braking zones, and of course plenty of contact. And hardly any yellows/safety cars since the cars ride high enough to drive through the sand and re-enter the track. It was pretty fun.
