How do you compromise when your son wants a VW Bus and you don’t? According to forum member octavious, a 1971 Beetle works perfectly.
This parent/kid project is not quite a restoration, though, as this Beetle has rallycross duty in its future:
The plan is to build it into a rallycross car along the lines of a Class 11 VW. Now granted we are in TN so there aren't many (or maybe any) Class 11s near us, but we figured we'd give it a go.
At the time of writing, the Beetle is mostly in pieces, though overall it looks to be in a decent condition. Follow along with this Beetle rallycrosser build over at the Blue Goose VW thread on the Builds and Project Cars forum.
On one hand it sounds like an epic project to me...
On the other, I clicked the link thinking "who is the idiot that had the same dumb idea as me?"
