An oft-overlooked car that’s well-suited for track days and autocrosses? Try a 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera, says forum user Grantsfo.

In trying to keep things as light as possible, Grantsfo started by ordering a 991.2 with many weight-saving options, including carbon fiber front seats, lightweight glass, and the deletion of the sunroof and rear seats.

In total, the Porsche weighed in at around 3130 pounds when delivered. (For comparision, a 991.2 GT3 weighs in at approximately 3300 pounds.)

That apparently wasn’t light enough, however, so Grantsfo removed even more weight: The factory radio, air conditioning, front and rear bumper sensors, and the windshield washer reservoir were removed. Likewise, the original battery was swapped out for a with a lighter lithium unit.

All said and done, the car weighs just 2875 pounds with half a tank of fuel–a total weight savings of nearly 300 pounds over the stock car.

Out of the several modifications already completed, the most notable upgrades include TiAl 3D-printed headers, Tractive coil-overs, AP Racing calipers and rotors, Jongbloed 19-inch wheels and a 91-octane tune–with plans to run an E85 tune in the near future.

The build is “about 60% complete” we’re told, with the addition of aero upgrades from a Porsche Pikes Peak racer also planned.
