What do you get when you shave a Porsche 911 down to 3056 pounds and install an engine from a GT3 RS? You get the Porsche 911 S/T, a limited-edition model celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911.

Porsche said it designed the S/T for road use rather than track use, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they made it boring. Let’s start with how they put this car on a diet.

They replaced the hood, roof, front fenders, doors, rear axle anti-roll bar and the stiffening element on the rear axle (shear panel) with versions made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).

Then they installed magnesium wheels, a Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system, a lithium-ion starter battery and lightweight glass to shed some more pounds. Reduce insulation and take out the rear-axle steering, and you get 3056 pounds, which is 70 pounds lighter than the manual-equipped 911 GT3 Touring.

The 911 S/T comes with an exclusive lightweight clutch. Combine that with a single-mass flywheel, and rotating mass gets cut by about 23 pounds. This makes the car even more responsive, achieving a zero-to-60 time in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.

Part of that performance stems from the 518 horsepower, 4.0-liter boxer engine they took out of the 911 GT3 RS.

Porsche will produce only 1963 examples of the Porsche 911 S/T. MSRP will be $290,000, with an ETA in the U.S. for spring 2024.

If you want to check one out in person, Porsche plans to debut the 911 S/T at the Rennsport Reunion 7 at the end of September.

Came here to scoff at how heavy cars have become but 3k isn't bad for that thing. Especially considering how big it is.

Well if I win the mega millions or come by insane sums of money by some other means, this is something to look forward to.

3056# and $290,000?

My OCD says I would've priced it at $305,600.

Indeed. It seems like everything's bigger and heavier these days. 3000 is today's "lightweight" car.

I really love sports cars that are 3000# or under so I have discovered.  My last Mustang was about 500# more and that heft was felt.

Ya I had a Mustang as well and didn't like that part of it. How heavy and large it is. At the time I also owned a RWD Skyline which has a listed cub weight of around 2800lbs which is like 1000 less than that Mustang and it was much more fun to drive.

I got a S3 which is in the upper weight for sport compacts but it's not really much heavier than like a STI.

Then I got a R33 GTR which is lighter than that.

All of those cars I got since owning that mustang were more fun to drive. And it's crazy that inside the Skyline I have now I have a lot of room but the car is dwarfed by a Mustang. Adults have no problem fitting in the back seats. It's a proper mid size car from a time when mid size was still mid size.

My CLS 550 tips the scales at over 4000. I guess it would in reality be more of a GT car but it has just enough grip and suspension to tempt you to toss it around. Then reality sets in and I get the sad face. I love the car but I am missing a lighter lower Hp/torque car that I can toss around.

This has me 911 shopping. A deal is on the horizon but I will not know if it will happen until I get back from vacation next week.  I should post up a thread as I have three cars that are all possibility's

Looks like that 70 pound reduction in weight costs around $20+k per pound. Less is way more!
