How do racing games replicate so many unique engine sounds?
Well, it's about as simple as you might imagine: By strapping a bunch of microphones to the cars and then driving them around in circles for a bit.

Bummer. That was super uninformative. I was expecting a discussion on how the recorded sounds were isolated, adjusted, mapped to throttle/engine loads etc.
I want a racing game where all the sounds are dubbed by Michael Winslow.
