Rebuilding a steering rack is easier than you think | Video

Chances are your project car has rack-and-pinion steering. And, at some point, you might need to rebuild it. We won’t blame you if it sounds intimidating, but it’s easier to do than you might think.

Here’s our guide to rebuilding a steering rack, and it should apply to virtually any car fitted with rack and pinion steering–whether it’s a classic like our 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite or something more recent–since the technology hasn’t really changed since is advent.

Totally easy, except for that oil seal right smack in the middle... I either have to buy a tool that puts the rebuild cost over buying a rebuilt rack or I get to spend a bit of time making a tool.
