Does anybody else see these as the working man's Supercar. I would love one and the maintenance shouldn't be too bad being a regular 5.4 Triton engine with Ford running gear.

Now where is that wallet of mine, ah ha, now $20, $25, $26, $27... err what's in the couch
Of course. That's my number one lottery car. Unfortunately that's the only way I would ever own one. I don't even aspire to be rich. I'm happy enough with fast cheap cars.
Still waaaay to expensive for any "working" man I know.
Depends on what you do for work I guess. Front man for a multi Platinum selling band?
yeah, but is that really work? I guess it is, just different work.
I've seen stock GT's sell for less then that but they were stock and this one aint! Still they can be driven just like any plain jane car, I know I drove one of Ford's production prototypes. An easy 135 mph in 4th and it has 6 speeds!
Weren't those $500k brand new?

$125k or so sticker, with dealer markups bringing some up close to $200k..
Ahh I couldn't remember.
I didn't feel like googling it.
My brother went to Florida to propose to girlfriend last spring. Grandpa owned one and he went for a ride instead of driving it since he was new to family and didn't want to screw up.
He went back this month and I told him to DRIVE it this time since grandpa offered last time. Yeah, grandpa sold his Ford GT last month. $140,000.
I told my brother that might have been a once in a lifetime chance he had.......

Had one sold out of a StL dealership for 145,000xx brand spank'n new.
EDIT: To a 14 year old.
We had one run in our Speedway Autocross once.
Didn't do too well.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a GT not do well at a typical autox, but most likely due to the driver moreso than the car. Much for the same reason I'm faster in my HS mini on street tires than I am in my STX prepped e30. The mini matches my skill level better.

i saw one at a small town Ford dealership that had an asking price of $250k. i commented to one of the salesmen that i had read that Ford didn't want them to do any price gouging on those cars, and he told me they got around that by registering it in the name of the owner of the dealership, which allowed them to mark it up as high as they wanted because it was technically owned by a private party. seemed shady, but what do i know? it was in the main showroom with the engine cover open sitting in a roped off area so you couldn't get within 3 feet of it.. according to the salesman that i talked to a couple of weeks later when i stopped in to show the car to one of my Ford loving friends, they sold it for $200k the week before.
it was a pretty cool car, but i don't think i'd ever actually want to own one..

Yes, from the sounds the car was not making, it was the driver being overly cautious.
We had the same thing with a GTR.
My douchebag ex-boss owned one. I can never again respect that car because of that...

I can't fault them for that. I'd be doing the same thing. I'd rather look like a slow idiot than a spinning-out-of-control idiot.
Had one at an autocross, I beat him with my 97 mustang IIRC that was back in the STX days for me. (totally the driver though)
The car is sweet, however, I would never get one. Depends what you want. Who needs a car that fast for the street? At the same time, who wants to take something that expensive on the track? I would rather have something that was cheaper, which is easy enough to get as fast or faster. (if it involves a trailer, so be it)

Sure, it's less expensive than other expensive cars. But it's expensive enough that, if you can afford it, other crazy E36 M3 isn't out of reach. It is certainly very gorgeous in a unique way.
However, I'd rather have a car with a functional differential that will not try to take me out when it commits suicide.
This has been my 18 seconds of GT sex for 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN-J4Jydnkc
Enjoy!
