So, I built / am building my 3.9 v6 powered rx8 over the last 2 years.
I got it running well enough to trailer it to the challenge last year. However, since I got it running about 2 weeks before the challenge, I didn't even try for the underbudget category. I just showed up to play with my new toy.
My budget right now is somewhere around $1900. However, that includes recoup for a few big items.
Now, here is where the poor planning and being a luddite venn diagrams come together...
I can't find the files on my laptop for the receipts for the selling transactions (and 1 of the buying transactions). Furthermore, I have the threads on Facebook messenger, but the price listed is no longer visible after some amount of time and listed as sold.
So, here are the items (and what I *remember* i paid / sold them for). Obviously, I would love it if 5 of you would either back me up, or suggest a new value.
Items I bought:
Engine- 2007 gm 3.9 60 degree v6 lz9 could be out of a minivan or a pontiac g6. Originally listed for $400 with trans. Paid $200 and left the Trans with the seller.
Items I sold (all items from 2004 Mazda rx8 6 speed):
Transmission (looked good, and functioned well according to the PO): $350.00
Engine (core with most accessories): $350.00
Driveshaft: $125
Starter motor (upgraded S2 type): $75
Ac compressor: $100
Catalytic convertor and exhaust from engine to end of cat: $150.
Feel free to either agree, or suggest a new value. I am not trying to pull a fast one.
If you made it this far, thank you! If you actually respond in this thread, I'll gladly give ya a hug at the challenge!
Going over the list my first thought was some seemed a little low, some seemed a little high, but all of them were within a range I'd consider acceptable. So I'd give my approval. My second thought was you could do better everything by using online prices yourself to get FMV.
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
Well some people like the ones that think you can sell a $2000 car with a required $1500 in junk parts would say yes there are others of us with less of a gray area. To avoid being one of those people I would suggest using Ebay completed/sold items as your FMV. You could also use junkyard price list. Let me know if you need some websites for them.
My advice is if it's what you paid it's what you paid. Document to the best of your abilities.
If you're not trying to be a dick, you're not trying to be a dick.
That said, I right now have a 6 speed renesis core in my shop, and I'd love it if someone gave me $350 for it.
Is that what they are worth on FBmarketplace?

Here is 1 /2 of an engine for $200...
Car-part search (screenshot)
The bottom half of car Part list (screenshot)
in anyone's build book, i would accept car-part.com lowest price within 100 miles of their zip for both the buys and the sells.
asking prices are all over the map, as are offers. the car-part.com method is pretty consistent.
Thank you. I will gather car-part prices, ebay motors sold items and FBM to back up my numbers.
Much appreciated yall!

No just engine, sorry. The engine is different for the manual trans cars vs auto and I was trying to be specific. Though I don't have an intake on the one I have so it may not be different anymore.

4 port versus 6 port is not just intake... 6 port is more desirable for straight swaps.
