It certainly won't win the drag race, or the auto x either for that matter, but man is this thing swanky.

If you want to know what to look for in a 300D, check out the youtube my son made when we sold his 300D a few years ago. What was meant to be a craigslist supplement ending up being a darling on multiple Mercedes forums due to the detail I went into as to what to look for. I had owned 5 other W123 over the years, as well as worked as a mechanic for a Mercedes dealer years ago. We painstakingly went thru every classic defect these cars have in our video, as I wanted my son to learn how to be upfront in an auto sale. 58,000 views later, we realized we had unintentionally made a video buyers guide for this model. If the mileage is correct, it is actually pretty low for a W123 (all of mine went 350-500K miles).

BTW, I did win both a drag race and autocross trophy with a 240D back in the 70's. They are slow, but they did handle and brake very well, thus the autocross class win. The drag race? I was bracket racing it, and almost no one could keep from blowing the lights given the massive head start I had, or they broke out of their bracket trying to catch me at the end. It was very easy to consistently run within 0.05 seconds over and over with the automatic tranny and zero wheel spin
