BUHBYE

1980 Rabbit Truck : $2011

1980 Diesel truck, 5 speed. Decent body, drivers side strut tower and door frame were replaced as was the core support. There is a small amount of rust in the passengers door frame but the pass side strut tower is actually pretty clean. It is on Raceland coils in the front and drop plates in the rear. I used it most of last year and averaged 48 mpg during that time. It is now somewhat disassembled.

I did the timing belt and rebuilt the pump, after reassembly the pump the internals seem to have spun, it puts out the right fuel at the wrong time…so it runs but not well and it is very down on power(down from 50 is REALLY down). I have not yet tried to rotate the IP on the bracket but may if I get time. I have a Callaway Scirocco S that needs to fill this space so I would like to see it move along.

Unknown mileage, it had a NOS dash installed in 2007, it is not perfect anymore. It has most of the AC setup; that isn’t something that matters to me but I know it does to some. Could use steering shaft u-joint and steering rack bushings. It is sitting on 13x4.5 steelies and three hubcaps.

Add a grand, bring a pick up and take all my stock MK1 parts. So for $3011 you can take the truck, all of my extra body parts, two spare engines(gas 1.8/1.7), three(maybe four) 5speeds, boxes of wiring harnesses, a flipped rear axle, More Swallowtail 4.5" steelies, eight Snowflakes, four Tarantulas w/tires, taillights..plugs…dohickies…thingamajigs. You know, the normal.

There is one of these for sale in Gainesville, Fl. The body is nicer...at least in the pix, and the interior looks okay, too. The seller is asking a bit more than chandler is asking, but doesn't have any spares. I like these, but isn't the driver's seat even more limited in rearward travel in the truck than in the Rabbit car?

There's also a Mk1 Jetta diesel that has popped up on the Gainesville, Fl CL. No mention of mileage and it's that unattractive (to me, anyway) Palmolive soap green.

That is part of my problem. I'm 6'1" but have LONG legs. I have back and knee probe as is. I loved driving it but I need to do something else!

Do want, but I need A/C... Also, I would need to drive it back to VA, and if it is down on power, well.... I wonder if it would have enough head room for me? Might have to make a short road trip and try fitting into a friend's (I have a LONG torso).

Not sure I would try driving it that far how it runs. Although they look small headroom is NOT an issue

I've received lots of really cool trade oFfers; I can't trade it since I don't have room now. It needs to go! One thing I may take would be some multipiece 15x9/10 wheels for my Scirocco. Otherwise I just don't have room for any other toys.

And as a side note, I wouldn't drive this home. It does run and drive but you will smoke out everyone behind you AND in the county. I will work on it this weekend.

I forgot that there are two windshields, most of another cab, two upper bed sides and my Martini Edition 924 seats that will go with it if you buy the parts also.

Bed cap included in the $3k?

Yeah, the cap is included. It is tweaked a little. I had to use more foam tape on one side then the other.

I have one and one half week before I need to bring the Scirocco home. I kinda need for this to go away....

BTW: The paint on this truck is not nice. I know pictures do not convey this but it may be rolled on. The guy who owned it before me is something of a hack and although I have gone through a lot of stuff paint isn't one of those things....

I'm not clear...

Is it "somewhat disassembled" or does it only need fuel pump effort?

What are the issues keeping it from running? Just the pump?

Decent body- you mean for OH, or in general? Frame rust? How's the bed?

Condition of interior? Tires?

Is this a "restoration" candidate, or a "driver"?

Well, I drove it as it sits for a year and about 12K miles. Over the winter I took it apart to replace the seals in the IP and do the timing belt. So nothing is apart, just needs some fiddlin' with the IP.

Ohio wise for body condition it's great. It has one rust through that I can find, this is a .5x3" spot on the pass. side door frame behind the fender. It has had some patch panels before I bought it and I fixed the strut tower and door frame on the drivers side. Unibody construction so front frame is fine. Bed is fine.

Interior is used pickup. The seats have some covers on them. They are standard pickup flat seats, passengers side looks never sat in, drivers is broken on the seams. Carpet is OK, needs relayed(Ithink it is a retrofit from a car). Dash was NOS in 2007 but, they affixed the vin tag through the dash, installed a rocker switch and generally didn't respect how hard it is to find a mint dash. Door panels are dyed black. Tires on the 4.5" steelies are pretty nice, one tire has some rubbing from when I took a bed load of stuff to Harrisburg and the tire contacted the fenders numerous times.

I would call it a drive while you tinker type of vehicle. That is what I have done. It will appreciate attention but beyond the IP it doesn't NEED it.

EDIT: It isn't a show truck and never will be. It IS a good truck for cruising, commuting(if you don't mind the spartan) and generally enjoying the small truck lifestyle.

OK. That helps.

I'm interested. Don't need the extra parts. Could use the cap.

The drive is killing me right now. I'm 13 hours away.

Let me think about it.

Ok, $1750 for truck. $2750 for truck and all of the parts. It runs, needs work, I suggest the use of a trailer.
