Struts have arrived!

At first I thought I'd been shafted since they are Excel-G's instead of GR-2's but after google-ing it turns out they are one and the same.

When I pulled off the front wheels I noticed my newly installed endlinks have already started cracking.

DAMMMIT!!!!

It's back on the ground and I'll be taking it out for a cruise tonight.

I forgot to mention, the other day I borrowed a timing light from a buddy and set the timing at 15 degrees before TDC.

Welcome to GRM, Sir Thomas!

Do you have a build thread on the LeMons forum?

I also adjusted the door strikers so the doors close flush with the body and give a nice, solid "shump" when they are swung shut.

One more thing, I kept the bump stops from the old struts and put them on the new ones.

New struts = $127.xx for the pair

I need to find all of my other receipts and keep a rolling total like my blue LSC.

The front suspension has 3 positions for the ride height sensor to give you a bit of adjustment. While changing the struts I noticed that the d/s front was on the lowest setting while the p/s front was in the middle, they had some rust so it looked like they were set this way from the factory. I chalked it up to manufacturing tolerances and assumed they had been set by someone more knowledgeable than myself.

It kept bugging me though, so today I decided to lower the car. I'm not much of a fan of the muscle car rake on anything but muscle cars so I had to level this thing out.

I moved the p/s front sensor to the lowest setting then adjusted the rear sensor to drop that end about 1.5" or so.

After I was done I loaded up the kids and went to a couple of car lots to browse a bit then hit the store for a few things. I was amazed at the difference in driving feel. I love it!

We should have a get-together; cook out, museum trip or train museum thing or something.

Just filled up and it took 15.4 gallons and the car has been driven 228.9 miles, but keep in mind the car is lacking overdrive and has 3.45 gears (3,000 rpm @ 70 mph, yada, yada). Also there was lots of idle time and the a/c was run quite a bit.

Looks like 14.8 mpg. Ugh. Well that's the base line. Let's see what improvements I can make!

Edit: According to the trip minder the average mpg was 14.5 and the average speed was 22.2 mph over the course of 228.9 miles (distance according to both the trip minder and trip odometer).

That was 80% city, 20% highway.

Edit: MPG is not a big concern with this car it's just another facet of what makes an awesome car; good handling, powerful engine, decent mileage, etc...

Thanks.

Well, the best thing to do to remedy that lack of knowledge is buy an old Fox body!

I thought the OD was an easy fix? Or are you driving around in 3rd gear for a reason?

Sadly overdrive was burned out completely. I was hoping a new t/v cable bushing would solve the issue when I initially took possession of the car, but it's DOA.

Well I have an '86 crown Vic coupe with an AOD in it if you're interested don't know what condition OD is in, but could be a good spare

I love boxy Crown Vics...

I appreciate the offer but I'm planning a rebuild at a local shop that's run by a friend of the family. Excessive overtime turns me into a check-writing car enthusiast; three days, done and done!

What kind of shape is it in?

Restomod?

Loss of OD is either a band failure or servo failure. I have seen the servo o-rings fail on both rebuilds and high mileage units. Also have seen broken springs cause a loss of OD. The band will fail from either a broken attachment points or loss of material.

It really isn't a big $ job to fix, it's just a PITA to fix.

No. No. NO.

SyntheticBlinkerFluid, you just made the list. And the list is not a good place to be.

You may have meant parts, but he interpreted it as 'new project', therefore you're both fired
