Packaging. Wider beam
the 5 year old dry rotted Kelly's are gone. Man I forgot how much I hate tiny short sidewalk tires. 205/45/17 on a 6.5" wide factory wheel sucks.
How much were the brake parts? Always curious the cost of consumables since they vary so much
Plans for the clutch?
Porterfield R4S were $150 for the pads, rotors were $74 shipped for all 4. When I step up to a more track focused pad, they'll be about $300 for the set for the R4 compound and rotors will still be silly cheap. I found braided lines for $170, but these are new enough right now I'm not planning on a change as of yet.
Clutch functions fine. I'll flush the fluid out of the master and call that a win. If it gets to the point that it starts to slip we'll tackle that then. They're pretty durable from what I've seen so no immediate plans.
Working my first saturday in many years, but if its raining I'll go home and yank the right knuckle off and swap to the new knuckle/bearing/hub/sensor and salvage as much of the dust shield as I can and finish a second brake flush (i got 2/3 of it done). Then this coming week I'll take off the flat spotted tire and put on one of the others and I'll be ready for next weekend at NCM.
EDIT: also another oil change and trans fluid change with the redline MT85
Today sucked. Short version I spent 2 hours trying to get the axle out of the hub because it was rusted as a solid piece. Once it was out the bearing they sent me was wrong and now I'm waiting until Tuesday for the new one.
the good news is I got the oil changed, brakes flushed, trans fluid drained and 3 of 4 tires back on!
After 24 hours now to simmer down......
Everything was going well for a car from the rust belt. Tie rod, ball joint both came loose. Botom strut bolt was a bit of a shiny happy person but it eventually saw the error of its ways. The only thing left was the axle out of hte hub. It looked crusty. I didn't realize just HOW crusty. after 2 hours with an air hammer, 3-jaw puller the inner cv poppedout of the trans and made a nice mess of stinky unicorn juice. So I took it to the bench and used the 3-jaw puller with a 24" breaker bar and a 2' extension, an air hammer and torch. After another 30 minutes of that not working and many many un-nice things said very vocally about it's mother and siblings I stuck it in the 15T press. Full pressure, heated the hub for 10 minutes, hit it with the air hammer and the thing that did it was, while it was smoking hot hit it with a spray of PB. With the pressure of the press, the heat, the air hammer jarring it and the PB soaking into the cracks it finally popped loose.
YAY! Right? Wrong. Grab the new knuckle and bearing to put onto the press and set the bearing onto the back of the knuckle and it falls in. Really? No one locally had the bearing. Found a Korean made Beck-Arnley part number and ordered it in as quick as possible. Should be here tomorrow. So TOMORROW I can finally put it back together and enjoy tires made this decade, real brakes, fresh engine, trans and brake fluids. Right?
At least I got the engine oil changed, trans fluid emptied and the brakes flushed. Oh, and 3 of 4 tires installed so it wasnt' a complete wash.
some interesting fun facts with this adventure. The Accent and Rio share calipers, hubs and brake pads but the knuckle is different because the Rio uses a larger bearing. it's 3mm larger OD, but same width and ID. So I guess I'm glad I bought the rio instead of the accent now.
I wonder if the knuckles can be swapped between the cars.. like could you run the Rio Knuckle and wheel bearing on the Accent?
I'll have to try and find a rio and a accent next time i'm at the junkyard.

Looks like that would be a yes from all that I can find. The hub is the same, so the axles are the same. It looks like the only difference in the knuckles is the rio is hogged out another 3mm for the bigger bearings. The aftermarket struts all use the same part number as well so that end is likely the same.
LONGER VERSION.... bearing arrived andwas correct. pressed it into the hub. Tried saving the backing plate but it was just too far gone to save. If i didn't mind it being floppy and rubbing on the rotor I could have kept it. Bolted it all up and the bearing was a little sloppy again. WTF? Then I remembered the footnote for these bearings.... "torque to 202 ft-lbs." Crap.... my torque wrench only reads 120. Well, I guess a 2' breaker and a 3' bar should get me there. Had the wife hold the brake, flexed that poor breaker (this thing is gonna let go spectacularly some day) and all slop ceased. Took it for a drive and it is soooooooo quiet. I had gotten used to the growl from the bearing and the howl from the tires above 40 that good tires and good bearing made this car very quiet.
A drain and refill of the factory unicorn juice trans fluid with RL MT-85 made a super smooth shifter even smoother. It's like arcade driving game shifter effort now. At least its accurate because I'd hate to put it in the wrong gear at the wrong time.

THAT is a fantastic idea. I think I'll do that saturday. After a 3.5 hour road trip the night before.

that sounds like a good preliminary shakedown
I'm trying to guess. 3.5 hours from you could be Gingerman, MI or Mid-Ohio, or Corvette track, or Gateway East St. Louis? Autobahn too.
Those are all some good choices.

Think.. armco, and sadness over being beat in an AX by an inferior driver in an inferior car.
Flat spotted tire off and disposed of. Good tire back on in its place. Tonight is packing night and tomorrow work then travel!
I know you already found one set of rims...maybe you need another set? I didn't dig into compatibility across the Forte and Rio
These look local to me and I could help as needed if you are interested.

Enjoy your track time this weekend!
Edit - wheels and tires were sold
Fortes are all 5x114.3. I am running 205/50/15 track tires so I'm looking at 15x7/7.5.
Speaking of grid life..... get a chance to watxh the afternoon live stream abs at 1:27 you can see me spin. It was awesome. Ok that part wasn't but the track is awesome and I make a few small appearances in the live stream from time attack c. My best lap was a paltry 2:58. But it was sub 3 seconds, it's a stock car on very old rivals and I was guessing in tire pressures.
car is a hoot. Gearing is weird. I dropped to second and unlike all my previous Korean cars the trans was happy to do it. I could keep up with the fit in 3rd but I could gain dropping to 2nd. Terminal velosocity was 105 on the main straight. Again, not mad at all. Super happy with the car and I can't wait to put more laps in.

A little less stable, a little less powerful. Brakes are better than the forte, visibility is better and the seat is better. The seat back was a surprise for me. It actually tried holding my 240lbs of lard butt in place.
