This rig is fantastic so far, keep up the good work! I've had a bizarre, lifelong obsession with classic vans so this hits all the checkmarks in my book.

With that much engine setback, does the engine get installed through the front, or through one of the doors?

I'm pretty sure they're offset to allow adequate space for the driver's feet and pedals.

I put it in through the passengers door and it was one of the quickest easiest installs I've ever done.

Earlier in the thread he mentioned installing the motor through the passenger door.

And that was my assessment as well: that the engine offset was to give the driver more room. The rear diff would be offset to accommodate that and not vice versa.

Edit: Rad_Capz (the OP) got me by one minute!

That may very well be. Even with the offset there's a bulge in the side firewall into the engine compartment by the gas pedal for footroom.

Had the front section of the 2 piece driveshaft shortened and a new carrier bearing & U joints installed by local driveshaft shop I've used several times without any problems. A one piece driveshaft was considered but after checking measurements and considering possible lowering of the vehicle in the future it was decided to retain the 2 piece.

Fabricated new trans lines from the AOD to a stock rebuilt heavy duty radiator. Aluminum lines with black AN style fittings. Tucked the lines away from header (will probably use some heat shield also) and left space to replace the starter should the need arise.

Getting things finished up and should be firing the engine pretty soon. Been laying Dynamat while waiting on parts to get the Lokar AOD kickdown cable installed and a few other little bits needed for various things. Here's a few random pics.

This is one of those threads that I end up really liking, but will more than likely never go out and buy an old van like that. It is looking good though. Makes me want to get some headers for my E-150 and drive around with the doghouse off.
