Finally!!!
after months of waiting on pistons, and a machinist's knee to heal up, what we have here is a KH 2.1 turbo 5cyl block bored +.060 to accept MC1 pistons. I could be wrong but this may very well be the only 2.2 KH on the planet.

way to go man!!! glad to see the bottom end at home again. now its time to get this beast assembled. i know the whify wont like me saying this, but having that motor togather for DTAR sure would be awesome...."cough cough"! lol
white van. . . . says the fellow S30 Z owner. HA! those are also the 7 inch wide version but I like your recent wheel acquisition even better.
turboswede: believe me, if I could shoehorn a 20v into what's left of my challenge budget I would much rather have that engine also. but the 10vt kinda makes the whole project a little more OEM+. I have always said it's the power plant that should have been in there all along.
good call wes, unfortunately I just know that's not in the cards. . . mostly money but I also wanna take my time tucking the engine bay. . . I have never seen a clean 10v and I intend on doing it proper. . . or dapper or whatever the kids are calling it now days
2002maniac: that's awesome. I hope I don't break down again but I wouldn't have any problem stopping by to check out some mad 2002 action or to just hang/converse with a fellow GRM'r

OK I can see it now! Lol but you have to admit that angle looks looks like the front of some old school cab over van/bus.
if I did have a van it would have to be an old 60's econoline but I think those wheels would look sweet on it. they might even bolt on if those vans were 4 lug.
got the block painted today. . .
i can't wait to get this engine together again. part of the reason i wanted to take this car to the challenge was because it came with a complete turbo 5cyl. . . . had i known how much work it needed i probly would have just bought an mc2 and slammed it in on cis. . . . no turning back now though. this will be the cleanest 10vt engine bay ever.
took the 4000 to crested butte this weekend for a close friends wedding.
good thing she aint no pavement queen. kebler pass is a great drive this time of year as long as you aren't afraid of a little smooth dirt with the occasional holly crap gravel. . . much quicker route to the dead end town of cb.
the brand new fuel pump is already acting up in this desert heat. . . I guess its time to find something sufficient for both a CIS JT and a MSNS KH
otherwise it was an awesome weekend. one thing I love about ski towns in the summer are all the sweet cars out of hibernation. to name a few we didn't catch a photo of there was a 67 vette with some serious widening of fenders, good looking car. early early 911, black on white, looked brand new, this very tasteful boss
my quattro's bavarian competition
this super cool MG
3 or 4 van syncros spotted, an early chevy panel rod. . . too many cool cars really, now I wonder if there was a car show going on in gunnison
sweet pics jay. sorry i missed the wedding as i miss most things in the summer time. lol sucks about the fuel pump issues that keep arising. love that you aren't afraid to drive this beautiful audi 4k. IMO...its the best looking audi 4k this side of the pond ( and im willing to challenge anyone to find a 4k of this body style that looks as good, and has modern styling cues and its all wrapped up in a bad ass package like jays does.). im serious, jays car in person is just a neck breaking machine.
I want one so bad. I don't even care if it's rusty, so long as there is quattro, turbo, and 5-cylinders involved.
that's awesome! makes me feel less creepy when I'm the one taking photos of all the cool cars I see.
so what brings you to the neighborhood anyway?? you should have stopped by
wes: thanks man, It's good to hear the look I'm after described by someone else. I'm still a little bitter that the audizine guys didn't see my car worthy of their wuste video but that beat up 5000 with a wrapped fender made the final cut along with every other vinyl wrapped newbie at the show. maybe if I had plastidipped the entire car more people would have noticed it. . . even some of the hardcore audi guys I met didn't realize those flares are not stock. most people probly thought I just slapped wheels on there, didn't recognize all the work invested.
I'm just glad I have the GRM forums for an outlet. the digital classic audi world is a baron wasteland overall. . . maybe it's because there are so few of these cars left.
oh and sobe_death; keep a watchfull eye on Colorado craigslist. they really do pop up there more often than you think, for reasonable prices too
I know, the real problem is that my level of want outstrips my level of cash right now. Really, I want a race car donor that will hold a 5 cylinder, quattro, megasquirt, a massive turbo, and rediculous launches.
I was on my way to FM to solve a major cooling issue, kinda short on time this trip, otherwise i would have knocked on your door like the creeper i am.
I'm up in Vancouver right now.
I have seen that car before but not on speed hunters. that thing is probably the most insane 4k on the planet to date. . what a work of art, from the box flares to the insane work put into the strut towers/inner fenders. . . the completely revamped intake manifold. . . incredible car. makes my budget project look like a hack job. lol
went for a photo drive today, the weather was perfect for it, black skies & sunshine
gotta love a good before and after
it completely slipped my mind that the lands end hill climb was going on about a quarter mile away. we heard what sounded like a throaty VR6 in the distance and went to investigate
my favorite. at heart i'm still a little kid who dreams of racing the Baja 1000 someday. the backdrop made the drive well worth it but the free trip thru the hill climb pits was a nice little bonus
Finally got a proper fuel pump for this car. 300 lph ought to be more than enough to keep the turbo engine full of go juice. combined with the 60lb injectors I should have a fuel system capable of running E85 should I desire to do so! muhahahaha
after installing the pump and solving the slight clunk I was hearing from the front suspension, I turned my weekend efforts towards the fuel rail for the turbo 5cyl. First up, I turned out some pins necessary to measure the injector spacing. without these it was impossible to measure anything with my 6" & 12" calipers with the casting of the head constantly in the way.
once these were in place it was simple to measure the distance from outside to outside and subtract the diameter of one pin to find the center to center dimension between each injector. Once done I cross checked them measuring the gap between 1 & 3, 2 & 5, etcetera, to make sure every gap was consistant. I only had a variance of about .002 or .003, I'd say that's acceptable, the O-rings should be able to soak up a couple thousands difference if it's not dead perfect.
Then I did a little mock up with the fuel rail material to see what length I needed and to make sure everything was going to clear the throttle body.
I love proving the internet naysayers wrong, everyone loves telling me "you gotta have an intake manifold spacer for a 10v fuel rail" . . . I think not. my measuring jigs are slightly longer than my injectors and I still have plenty of room. Some people take one opinion and run with it like it's the only way because they are too scared to try something different. . . makes me laugh
I need a mill to move forward on this but it's coming along for sure

Man you are making great progress, can't wait to see it done. Your build inspired me to look into these cars as well Check it out when you get a minute, and if you need anything let me know I may have it. Also check out the motorgeek forums as it's the happenin place to be for us classic audi fans. lots of good info over there, probly a good place to start moving those parts as well
