I'm a sucker for either ALL chrome, or painted but not monochrome.

I do like the pewter (or whatever colour you choose, even silver or just white), but I would want to do all the trim with pewter to tie it all together.  Advantage with paint - it's easy to touch up.  Chrome done poorly is hard to deal with as it ages.

Agreed. Mirror and door handles mostly.

i would also accept a package deal of white grille + white bumpers + white mirrors + white steelies

in other words, the truck has two colors:  body color + white

which i believe is what SkinnyG means when he says "painted but not monochrome"

I see this. I also see "chrome grill but with body color striping on it, pewter bumper, handles, mirrors and wheels", so that's three including the chrome grill. I could also make the grill pewter.

I will have to find the paint that I can spray on and then wash off if I don't like it.

I don't recall asking, but now that I am getting real body color quotes I need to know how much sprayable paint I will need. I think, for inside/outside and bed inside and outside, I'll need two sprayable gallons. Thoughts?

My neon took 2 gallons. I'd expect your truck to take three

So I was all ready to make a call and order Sea mist green. Chad cannot make it. I really would like to stay with Moto base, I think he is willing to do some custom stuff but I'm not really sure how to do it and I'm having a crisis of color. I checked the weather and I still have a few weeks of lousy cold nights before I can be assured that the sealer coat will work well.

Meantime, I will be paranoid in overthinking the color. Stay tuned.

Yeah, I still want Seamist green. Is there any way to find what's close?

The only thing I find that is close is radium green

If Sea Mist is what you want, you will forever lament anything other than Sea Mist.

Make it so.

Short of coming up with something close, I don't know how, other than sending the guy a chip.

Actually maybe I can buy a chip book and send it to him.

In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :

I assume that 2 gallons is with the reducer mixed in, so one full gallon of paint?

In reply to NOHOME :

Correct. 2 gallons sprayed. So a gallon of base and a gallon of clear was used. Once it was mixed with the reducer and all that it made 2 gallons of each.

586 is the Chevrolet code, it's from 1955 or so. Thanks!

I also told Chad I could just buy a chip book and have him match the chip, so we'll see what happens there.

I see. I am looking at one and a half gallons of color, so three gallons sprayable.

Inner bed sides was tintable Raptor.

Epoxy sealer is in-hand.

Paint arrives tomorrow.

I found my HVLP tips (whew!).

As a quirk of business travel I have some time tomorrow afternoon, and the next day off.

Weather looks promising.

You have positive pressure, but what is the fume exit look like?

My first booth had positive pressure from a couple of fans blowing through furnace filters, but I did not have enough of an opening on the opposite side and hence no flow to move the paint mist outside.  I ended up removing the far wall to of the booth to create some kind of flow.

Looking forward to the post to come!

Pete

Lots of issues. First: why is my spray pattern so small? The knob upper back seems to do nothing.

Lots:

Quick disconnect fitting failed and flew all over. Gun is piped straight into hose now.

Leaf blower broke, couldn't blow dust off cab. Tried to retape and remove old tarp on cab floor and ran out of time.

Having trouble getting to front and back of fenders and doors. Need more racks.

Found three spots which need more attention before body color too.

I sweat so much I was dripping on the work.

I tried leaving a flap open. I'll reconfigure tomorrow so the inlet is on the opposite side.
