Looking forward to following the build of this truck, you always find a way to improve everything but on such a small budget.

Thanks yall!

And improve is definitely a relative term...

I try to make them less ruined than when they arrived. Sometimes I succeed!

So, both lines for the factory trans cooler are damaged. I think im going to,  at this point,  just go back with the factory in radiator cooler. I cannot forsee myself needing much more, as the usage this thing will realistically see will not be that hard. My red truck has done just fine, honestly.

I will be putting a temp gauge in, just to see if an auxiliary cooler is justified.

this job isn't fun. But, not horrible looking fluid,  a fine metallic paste on the magnet but not scary,  a big ass yellow spring and metal valve in the accumulator.

Think Im going to believe the shift kit story for now. Hopefully the service helps.

In reference to discolored plastic: Asploded battery?

You are a machine.

I think so about the discoloration. However,  its a wierd pattern that doesn't really jibe....

And im not a machine. I just can't berkeleying SLEEP.

Update to end the night. More to remind myself of this later. Fluid and filter changed, drain plug added. Took 6 quarts. Unable to reinstall Factory trans cooler do two fittings in radiator being different than fittings on Hardline. Reused old rubber lines and old trans cooler that truck came with.

Temp gauge to tell if you have a temp issue with the cooler is probably the smart move.

Fluid and filter change probably won't affect shift quality unless the fluid quality was miles from fresh.  Sounds like it wasn't bad.  That big yellow spring perhaps could be changed if you really wanted to open that can of worms?

I know not sleeping but physical activity usually is enough to solve that for me most nights.  And if I am not able to stay asleep I usually wouldn't trust my work at 4:30 AM to make much use of that time.  Fun stuff.

I think at this point,  i finish up the preventative maintenance and basic repair that it needs ( famous last words for me). Put a few miles on it,  and see what i really bought. Get a feel for the trans and rest of it before going too far. Id hate to put much money and work into this drivetrain if it proves to be unhealthy. But i honestly think and believe that its healthier than the red truck at this point in time.

Im really optimistic that the trans service will help. Seems to shift from reverse to drive smoother already, but that may be wishful thinking. Test drive will tell, but not today. I also want to get the brakes.flushed and fuel filter changed tomorrow afternoon before I bring it back home. Just to round out the stuff thats way easier on the lift, and that i have parts on hand for.

Bright side is that i get to return like $75 in parts! So at least i got that going for me.

As far as sleep: i periodically struggle. Usually for a couple weeks,  then back to my normal six hours a night. It just sucks and im really short of patience and temper during the sleepless cycle

I feel ya. I'm 49 and lately sleeping worse than I have in my life. Work stress and nearly seven months of WFH are what I'm blaming. Trying to mix in more exercise.. but I've been lucky to sleep 4-6 hours after sleeping well for 7-8 hours since I was 25. If you find a remedy please share it.

Will do. Only thing that helps me in this part of the cycle is tension tamer tea. Some reason it helps me stay asleep once I actually FALL asleep.

As far as truck: i found the goalpost.

Could you get a factory good valve body and just swap them?

Umm....

I actually hadn't thought about that! Just find a "good used"!

I broke the passengers side inner door handle the day i got the truck legal. Figured when i got home,  it would be a quick and simple project. That snowballed....

Leftover sound deadening,  used infinity reference speakers....

So, big update due soon.

But today saw it put into shakedown status. Other than the lack of ac, and the led headlights sucking,  im REALLY digging it. No new nasty suprises!

How much does that placement of sound damping shiny stuff help?  I may consider throwing a little bit of something at the doors of my Suzuki if I ever get myself into motion on some improvements which include new front speakers.  Which shiny stuff is that?

It really depends on the vehicle as far as placement. I try to put it between panels that will vibrate,  and big unsupported sections.  More or less if you rap it with your knuckles and it sounds tinny or hollow,  thats a good spot.

This particular product is peel and seal from lowes. It works ok, but not nearly as good as other products i use. But i had it, so i ised it.

How is trans shifting?

Still pretty rough. Not consistently hard, and 1-2 is harder than 2-3 almost always. 3-4 is smooth as butter. I haven't found a throttle angle in the last 46 miles that makes it always hard or always ok-ish.

1-2 shifts always suck in 700/4l60's. The drop from 3.06 to 1.64, is huge. That is why there is an $800 planetary you can buy with a better 2.84/1.54 split. lol But anyways, if the TCC is worn, it can cause a harsh 1-2.

So, i guess the big question about the trans is,  should I trust it? The shifting is hard more often than not. I just fixed the cooler setup. and went back to the factory in radiator cooler now that i have fittings that work (radiator had adapters threaded into the correct size ports. The adapters are for a bigger line apparently.)

It doesn't slip. It feels like it doesn't slip enough on gear changes,  instead just banging into the next gear like a poorly driven stick.
