Curious about the projected >900 HP out of a ~5L '80's engine, even if race gas is used.  I don't see room for forced induction.  Nitrous?

There's very little 80s left in the engine, at least not in the stuff that matters.  I've had good luck with dynomation making good projections on other projects, but it might be lying to me, that certainly possible.  Most of the gains are due to the extensive flow work and cams combining to allow peak hp around 9500.   For sure the heads flow nearly 70% more a stock TR heads so tht alone gets a nearly 700hp expectation...then a lot more cam, intake and exhaust.  to match.  and the extra displacement going from 4.8 to 5.4 doesn't hurt either  But we'll see when dyno day arrives, I may end up disappointed and boost or  nitrous talk will need to begin.

Edit: I'll add that I've found a few oddities in DM over the years and sent them in which included logs and my engine model.  They are also great about responding and getting the issue corrected but this engine model did spark a comment along the lines of "this thing is really sensitive, do you mind if we hold onto the file to use in our development testing." That's probably a bad sign for engine actual output matching or beating the simulation as I litterally spent  hundreds of hours dialing all the specs in....which could mean it's a simulator champ that exploits every weakness in the simulation and the real number is much lower.....I don't think so because the specs are very similar to other stuff I've done or seen done over the years.....but it's very sensitive to small changes so......

I’m really interested to hear it run once it’s all dialed in. With all the O2 sensors you should really be able to dial that thing in and run super efficient. You have made this look like child’s play compared to what most of us our doing. Carry on!

Like everybody else on this forum, I've been following along in wonder at the work you've done here. Although my contributions to this are zero, I was a little offended by the use of the word 'try' in the Road and Track article title, lol. You haven't tried, you've done it!!

Well, it looks like this thread has caught some mainstream media attention:

I knew something was up friday night when my phone binged 6 or 8 new youtube subscribes...which was I think more than I had total before that and the video they linked went from about 600 views to 11k this morning.  Then I got the link from a buddy who said "look what just showed up in my feed".

Even cooler is I'm told the next edition of grassroots motorsports magazine will be amazing. :)

Wow this is an amazing project! Thinking about the to-do list on my project car makes my head hurt but compared to this makes my brain melt. Keep up the great work and it sounds awesome too!

Then mount the calibers and wheel speed sensors....but I ended up giving up on the rear wheel speed sensor since they didn't really fit and for traction control I can pull the axle speed signal from the speedo sensor and way and figured no sense in being pig headed.

So a sent a link to this thread to a buddy I worked with WAY back when I first got this car and the response was basically WTF are you using for wheel Studs?

Me - remember, these are the studs Al made for me when I didn't have a proper shop, to fit the aftermarket wheels I put on back then"

Buddy - Dude....that's not safe!  Get me the specs and I'll get you proper bolts!

me- What?

Buddy - I have a Ti bolt company now, Ti64. We make stuff like proper wheel bolts for all kinds of race teams that aren't just waiting to break like the ones I see in the pic....you can't use those you dumb a$$ (my translation)

me - Sweet!  ....now I need to figure out what I'm doing for wheels and somehow magically get my wife to approve the spending of money I probably don't have so I can tell Greg what bolts I need.  :)

Before I pull the engine I need to remove the rear springs so I can cycle the rear suspension and see exactly what will fit width wise, where it would put the antiroll bar, maybe even actually right some of it down so I only need to do this once.  I guess that's the next step.

Just finished reading this, feel like I need to buy you a beer.

Thanks! And fortunately I drink beer!......and when I've had maybe just a couple too many I do really silly things like try to put TR heads on a 400 block and stuff it in a 308...but you probably guessed drinking was involved hence the beer offer   :)

Hey Mike

ATSAaron here, yes the same one from FChat 11 years ago. Did you post photos of how you did the front wheel speed sensors? As my Ferrari  308 is approaching 750 horsepower I am in need to dialing in some traction control measures.

750 is big number....turbo at round 26-28psi or so?

Check page 7, it shows what I did for wheel speed.

What are you doing for an ECU?

What wheels are those Aaron?  They look similar to the ones I'm trying to convince Lana I need but.....I'm not sure they are the same. and what Size?

First, welcome to all the new folks finding us for the first time because of this thread. Stick around. It's a cool place to hang out.

Second, I've been a little busy lately, so I missed when this thread first popped up, but I've just gotten caught up and I feel far stupider now. I just came in from the shop feeling fairly proud of myself for drilling a hole in my clutch pedal and making an adjustable stop without somehow drilling through my own thigh. That feeling is gone now.

MKE,

Happy to see that you've never given up, and followed all the way through!  I too tagged along with the initial build, but I'm thinking at some point you__or I__left F-chat, and I lost touch with your project.  Well, to tell you how long ago that was, I'm thinking you were a brand new father back then.

Congratulation on your continued progress, and being a true testament to stick with it-ness!

I don't think I've ever seen anybody that can make a TIG & a mill dance the way you've done!

I uh... yeah. This morning, I had five build threads on here bookmarked for a rainy day. Tonight, I have six.

And I thought I might be a bit off the deep end. MKE, I think you're staring back from the abyss!

Also, I see a wedding ring in one of the pictures. Your better half must be a saint. :)

I'm glad the outside world found this as it's one hell of an interesting story.

Hopefully publications reach out to you before they write about you. I was disappointed to see that there was so much copy and paste journalism when I was in your situation (with about 1/100th as interesting a project)

The first and only I heard of the R&T piece was was bings from youtube  that left me scratching my head vs David here who emailed before doing anything which is nicer.

Ok, Mt Dw came out my nose as I read this.  If you went out to the shop and drilled a hole without hurting yourself, you're ahead of me skill wise :)

I don't think I've ever completed any sort of project, no matter how small that didn't require a blood sacrifice.  The other night I went out just to take a few pictures for David.... and came in bleeding. I'm used to it......
