So, unfortunately, a SECOND CLK55 V8 (2004!) deal fell through...
Looks like now I may be trading cars even for a 1995 3000GT VR4 TT.
It was a project car, but got vandalized shortly after being completed.
Sad story really.
In any event is this potential Radwood awesomeness, or the onset of a pure trading for magic beans horror story?
Comments and stern warnings in 3, 2, 1.....
My Dad had one of those (GT VR4), man was it a pile. Before he bought it he was cross shopping with the FD and Mk4 Supra Turbo. I told him to get the Supra. When he offered me the VR4 I turned it down. Don't regret that one bit.
Do it, you've been able to handle all the issues of a cheap, neglected Mercedes. I'm bringing a neglected 90's turbo AWD Mitsubishi to the Challenge as well.
In reply to a_florida_man :
I’d be glad to give you plenty of reasons not to go near a VR4, but it might be easier to call me than for me to type it all out...
Looks like I'm going to pull back from the 3000gt.
We aren't communicating well, so I am not having any confidence that the 8 hour round trip will be worth it.
I'd rather enjoy the weekend.
:)
I know it's too early in the morning for this kind of negativity but the concept of a challenge priced 3000GT just makes me queasy. I think you dodged a bullet.

If that's the case, then a Challenge priced VR4 should make you actually puke, if not kill you lol.....
No worries, negativity has no traction here, these are ALL gloriously bad choices!
ok, well then, the bizarre saga continues... my schizophrenic online shopping has almost led me full circle.
On deck:
2002 SLK320
Wrecked, $300.
Should be able to pick up tomorrow.
SLO 2K is getting a transplant!

We will see.... those pictures were apparently taken in August.
The deal has been confirmed, will be leaving around 10, for a 1.5 hour drive... hopefully there will be a picture of a car on a trailer at a gas station, soon. It just won't be at night, hopefully. :)
Me and the boy road tripping to buy a wrecked car for parts
I hope the engine survived that crash
In reply to TurnerX19 :
Define survived. :)
We will see.... oil filter housing is GONE.
There will be a lot of sawsall action in the near future here.

I hear those MB six's love boost ...
So, we arrived and lined up:
Jacked it out of the dirt, and pulled the trailer under:
Put a piece of plywood down to get over the transition to the trailer deck.
Pulled the car forward off of the jackstands and onto the tail of the trailer.
As I kept pulling it went to the right.
I used a 2x4 as a guide to keep the car on , and not scuff the wheels, as they are decent still.
There was one miraculous event of note, when the owner pulled this out of the trunk:
Can't explain how this survived, I guess the mounting pts are brittle enough that it parted ways with the car before the bigger crunch?
Anyway, it wasn't long before:
Project Car on a Trailer, At the Gas Station!!!
In reply to Stampie :
Glad to hear it. It's on the menu, I hope. 1st things 1st.
So, in the end the glorious recovery crew was celebrated,
And the New grill was added to the SLO 2K.
Honestly, I liked my homemade grill, but this takes like $13 out of the budget.
One last post for the evening.
This is the yellow sticker on the windshield, I think it's a keeper:
Ah, just one more thing (Using my best Peter Faulk / Columbo accent):
Proof of the cars price, $300:

Pete, this photo will explain the umbrella. This is where the car was stored. Sort of funny....
In reply to a_florida_man :
Nice!
But the big question that remains to be answered... Did you get the umbrella?
In reply to camaroz1985 :
No, or maybe, not yet? didn't know it would be as big a hit as the car... lol.
