Jeebus!! That fan had to be almost two foot in diameter!!!

It doesn't look huge after the truck is stripped away actually. It is an 11 liter engine, so for comparison a V10 dodge is 8.5? I will see what I have for scale.
Oh, and the cylinder walls are only bout 3 times as thick, and its WAY taller, and longer, and heaver, and...
My Kitty Cat (3126 inline 6) is a 7.2 liter. Its a lot bigger than a Dodge... anything!
Edit for typo!
In reply to 03Panther :
You must have a 3126 which is 7.3. Cat uses or used the middle two numbers to designate liters per cylinder. So 3126 would be 1.2 liters per cylinder and the last is number of cylinders. The 3176 is around ten liters. Both great engines though. I have owned both and considered them for my swap.
Typo! I'm not familiar with the 3176 designation. The 3126 is in a 99 FL50. I do have the 10L Cat in the FLD120 MH, but Cat was calling it a C10 by then! has the spacers, unlike the C12, but have not had any problems form them.
The 3126 has been ok, and the problems I have had with it were not engine design ones, but I wish I has the ISC 8.3. The 6 spd Allison behind the Kitty, does not have enoug gears!. A stick would improve it.
The C10 would be a big improvement of the 3208, but for the same size yours is even better!
I've only driven one truck with the 13 spd... I was in that for about 200K miles one year. Behind a 500 HP Detroit 60 Series. Loved that truck That was back in 99, and I have not driven tractor trailes for a loving since then.
I think the 3176B was the predecessor to the C10. Mine was a 1995 or so and was 350 hp. If I had found the right truck with either one I would have gone that way. But my preference was Cummins because there is so much support. I also considered the 8.3 but I wanted a proper engine brake for one, and I also figured if I am doing all this work I would not want to wish for more power later!
Built a dolly to roll the motor around. I don't think I would have tackled this project without my handy little track loader.
Make the sound....
I don't thing the Wanderlodge forum would get that reference.

Now that ya mentioned the "B", that exactly what my 10L is! A 95 as well. Its in the 46 1/2 foot long MH with a Allison 4 speed slush box. At 50,000 lbs (loaded) the 350hp / 950tq is a pig. Either needs more engine, or more gears. But it runds like new, so I'll live with it.
To farther side track... I have had the chance to use a 'witch 650 like the track skid in the picture. They put the Bobcat stand on version to shame, and make the Toro Dingo look like a toy! Ditch Witch hit one out of the park! My friend bought the first two sold on the east coast. They are both wore slam out from constant use,(and still better than other options at their value) and while he is working on them he is renting a 1550. Its a LOT of machine!
They make a 3000 now and the other manufacturers are getting in on the act. Kubota just came out with one. I like this one so much that when I sold my business I kept it.
Sounds like your motorhome would benefit from more gears. Four is just nowhere near enough with that kind of weight. The splits are huge. I had a pump truck that grossed 66,000 pounds with the little 3126 and it went really well, but it had a thirteen speed also.
Wow! Props to that little Kitty! When we were pulling the 5er with the FL50 (3126/Allison 3060) we were only about 30K. It's tune is 275/800, and the gears were not ideal here in the flat lands, but did good out in the rocky's, although would slow a lot on the big hills... ran flawlessly. Trans worked well with the cruse out there as well. I could keep about 5mph more at the top of the "hills" by using the throttle, but set the cruse and let her do her thing was easy!
A few years back, I had to pass on a well worn 'witch 650 for $6K, but now ya can't touch one for that.
I no longer travel for work, so the plan is to sell both the FL50 Toter, and the FL120D RV, so I'll prolly never make it out to your neck 'o the woods, but I'd love to see the Fossil when she's back up and runnin"!

I can tell you that when the fan on the old 3208 kicks in the RMPs drop about 400 rpm
who the hell doesn't know what dodged a bullet means? I'm only catching up on this madness and I love it!
So how much of the front of the BBird is to be removed fort this install....or do you "slip"
this bullet up underneath the front bumper???
In reply to 759NRNG (Forum Partidario) :
That is a very good question. The only swaps I have seen so far involve doing surgery to hang the engine out the front, and sometimes quite dramatically. I am really hoping to see something those guys missed and not have to alter the look of the front at all. I am yanking old wheezy this weekend so we will find out soon enough! But to slide it in and pull the old one I plan to remove the steer axle and go straight through the front.
Looking good.
How are you planning on handling the shifter? It looks like it is going to end up a couple of feet behind the driver's seat. One long, bent rod? Remote cable shifter? TBD?
Regardless, a very cool project.
I am watching with great interest as the owner of '83 FC35 Wanderlodge. I popped a crate Jasper 3208T in mine a couple of years ago, but i was hunting around for options. This is awesome. I'm hooked on your thread.

I will mount it remotely but details to be decided. I know they shift cabovers and busses with rods and linkages and will see how they do it. Should be easier than a bus with forty feet between the driver and transmission!
Yea, you'd think that a cabover set up would be close to what you'll need to do. Very cool project and great progress so far.

I have a thread here called the 30,000 lb turbo project. There are some images of what we removed to pull and put the new engine in that might be helpful.
