Oops. If I had done my research I might have noticed that both the transmission and the diff have washers on the drain and fill plugs that I forgot to purchase. Let's hope that my assortment of generic washers has some of the correct size in them...

As long as it's not actually escaped, I doubt you need to do much. It's not like it sees a load. I can confirm in the manual when I'm at a work computer.
Well, there are traces of oil on the back of the transmission, so something has escaped.
I did manage to get the engine oil change and air filter change done. This would have taken a lot less time if it wasn't my first time putting an ND on the QuikJack (it fits) and having watched too much Sarah-n-Tuned, cleaned up a bunch of parts that didn't really need cleaning. I wasn't best pleased to find this thing attached to the car:
Maybe I spent too much time on Miata.net overthinking and researching things, but my understanding is that you're not supposed to use an oil filter with a drainback valve on an ND, so any oil filter that says it's suitable for NA/NB isn't what you're supposed to use on an ND. Even though this is supposed to be the correct filter for this car. It did go well with the metal shield underneath the engine attached bolts that had seen either all of the ugga duggas or none of them. Oh well.
Assuming the oil change reminder was reset when the oil was changed previously, there's a good chance that the oil and filter have been on/in the car for about 6k miles. I guess I should've checked sooner, but either way I captured an oil sample that I'll send off to bobzilla either tomorrow or Monday. Hopefully that can tell me a few things.
Car seemed happier with fresh Pennzoil and the OEM oil filter, anyway.
The other good news was that I have the correct size washers in one of my 'zon-source assortments, so if I can get the transmission and diff warmed up enough I should be able to change the oils in both.
I did look under the car when I had it in for the WV inspection, but decided do have a closer look again. It looks extremely clean underneath, but someone managed to kerb one of the wheels on the inside(?), albeit it mildly. Plus the fronts - which still have the OEM tires on - appear to have all the balance weights on them, including my favourite of stick on and hammered on ones on the same wheels. Someone near Philly is selling a set of pristine wheels, might have to make a trip out there.
While I was under the car, I noticed black RTV type gunk on the diff. That strikes me as a bit odd as I would think that Mazda would have taken a little more care assembling the diff:
I did notice that I could see red sealant on the transmission as well, but it was at least applied much neater:
For those who have spent more time under NDs than I have, is that normal or a potential indicator that the diff or transmission have been apart?
Also, it looks like the back end of the plate under the engine and the strengthening member have rivnuts installed. Is there a panel missing or is this a case of Mazda putting parts in that the aftermarket could make use of?
Answering one of my own questions - based on the installation instructions for the Verus underbody panels, there isn't anything missing, and having the threaded inserts is normal.
I'm almost tempted to install these panels, but then I remember what Keith said about transmission temperatures, and suddenly boxing in the transmission further doesn't seem to be that smart a decision.
TIL that you're supposed to check the engine oil level in these with the engine and oil hot. Now how might have been relative, but it looks like my fairly conservative attempt at topping up the oil got me just a hair over full. Which likely was an improvement over what was in there, because that was slightly overfilled with the engine cold...
Mystery slow battery drain causing blinkenlights box removed. Next time, should've checked earlier when the sales person mumbled something about trackers and there's a sticker with an IMEI in the door jamb.
It shouldn't have been activated anyway, but in good old IT fashioned, it's turned off and now we're waiting for someone to start complaining.

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of used Fiata Abarth Recaros from what I believe is reputable vendor.
Well, a smallish bright spot in the E36 M3 show the last two days have been - two big parcels have arrived this morning.
Might do an unboxing video later if I feel like it.
Following along for further seat posts. Curious to see how much difference you think you feel after they're installed. I have sat in my ND-RF without them, and a club member's RF with them, and I felt better on my upper back in his car, and there seemed to be a bit more room somehow.

No, I haven't sat in them yet because I didn't want to risk bending the mounting ears. They were exactly as described, too, and came from Redline Auto Parts down in Florida.
You're far more patient than I, I'd be all over those things as soon as they arrived. And based on personal experience, I don't think you need to worry about bending mounting ears by sitting in them. If you are, just stick some 2x4s under the rails or something. But I never have.

Nice score! Redline is my go-to place for used Porsche parts. They seem to run a good business, and as an added bonus, have useful info on their website for cross-compatibility between different generations and how-to videos on their YouTube channel.

Not much to report, at least nothing that's not covered in other threads.
It was finally warm enough here to drive with the roof down. Helped a bit with my motorcycle withdrawal - thanks to the unplanned swimming pool in the basement, the garage is full of boxes and I can't get at the bikes at the moment...
Also, the other night I was idly browsing the FM website (as one does) and noticed the sequential rear turn lights. Which had me thinking "why does one need those given that the car already has them?"
D'oh.
Yes, it looks like this car is slightly more modified than I originally thought, and I'm not sure if there any other modifications lurking that aren't that easy to spot. Not to mention how many of them may have been removed before the car was sold to Carmax.
I've been very satisfied with Redline Auto when sourcing a few replacement pieces for my 2018 Abarth Spider (ND Chassis). Love my Recaros, zero complaints from me!
Well, tried to put in the Recaros on the weekend, but it turned out that there was something important that I was missing...
Between the Torx bits on JDM cars and the Triple-Squares on Euros, my tool box has become very well equipped with the Icon brand tools. :)
Well, they're in.
First impressions are good, I'm sitting a tad lower so instead of looking at the bottom of the sunvisor if it's flipped down, I can actually see below it. What a concept. I also like that the red binding adds a little colour to the car. If this turns into a longer term keeper, I'm planning to add a few more colour accents as it's way too monochrome for my liking.
Haven't got around to actually driving it other than sitting in the seat and making brrmmm brrmmm noises. I have to go get the tires mounted tomorrow anyway so that'll make a nice trip to see how well I like the seats.
Some notes:
. Other than that, the connectors between the Fiata seats and the regular Mazda seats are a 100% match.
Sexy! If I ever build my dream ND, I think I'll need a set of those.
First proper drive in those seats, and I like them a lot. I do sit a little bit lower and feel like I'm sitting in the car more than in the original seats. Unscientific study suggests that with the regular seats in the correct position, the top of my head is roughly in line with the rollover bars, whereas with the Recaro properly positioned, I had to lower the steering wheel and my head is somewhere around 1/2" below the stock rollover "protection".
Plus, as mentioned, plug and play. Didn't get to test if the heated seats work given that it was 78 degrees outside, so we'll have to wait a few months for that test.
Also got the new tyres fitted and I must say, RE71s are much nicer than the stock S001s which I didn't like on my first ND, either. The new tyres also have made the steering slightly less "sticky", so some of this was the tyres. Still there, though, and steering feel is still at the levels of Gran Tourismo with a cheap wheel.
I'm sure everyone wants to know if I think if these seats worth the outlay? That's a definite maybe. To me, the plug and play nature is a massive plus, and they retain all of the stock safety features of the car. OTOH, it would've been much cheaper to just get a set of rails and maybe a seatbelt receiver for my Bride Stradia, improvise a couple of resistors that shut up the airbag sensor and call it a day. Of course, that would've only been cheaper because I already own the seat and not if I have to buy a pair of them.
Oh, and if I end up selling the car because automotive ADD and I find something shinier, I can just plonk the stock seats back in and sell the pair of Recaros for not much less than I have in them, because it's a pretty sought after mod. Makes you wonder why Mazda didn't decide to offer these a la carte as well instead of only in conjunction with the Brembos.
