"Try a 2002."
"Ok but you just said 1976."
"Well that's the year. I am looking for the 2002."
"Uh."
"The model is actually called 2002, the year is 1976. I know, it's silly."
I had that same conversation 100 times with my time with a '76 2002. Good to see that you are getting it knocked out.

"BUT YOU JUST SAID 1976!!!!" LOL
How I imagine 2002 owners in that conversation.

It is the exact same thing owning a vintage SAAB. "Yes, I need a distributor cap for a 1978 SAAB 99."
"Which one? A '78 or a '99?"

Just got back from NAPA and good news:
The BMW pads are a direct fit for the rear. Although as you can imagine, explaining over the phone was a bit odd.
"Yeah I need rear pads for a 1976 BMW E10."
"OK, i don't show E10 in this list."
"Try a 2002."

While I was there I purchased another union, and a longer solid line, so that I can instead of trying to fabricate some other hydraulic line up, can just run a solid line from under the car to the slave. So what I plan on is mating the 1/4" to 1/4" tubing, with SAE fittings since they had no metric (meaning i'll have to lob off the end under the car), and then re-flare it with the new SAE fitting, use the other side of the napa line with the SAE fitting and flare that. Then lob the other end off of the line, flare THAT with the metric fitting to go into the slave and I think that'll be fine. The other nice thing is that I can then slap some heat wrap over it to protect it from the header.
next question by the parts monkey, whos on first now? haha thats all I could think about.
Brakes are bled, clutch is bled, and adjusted. Everything is tip top groovy. The DMV had a statewide outage today so i couldn't get the stuff to make her legal.
We did have a few snags on bleeding, one of them had a funky flare which cracked, fixed that and reflared. Then the teflon seal for the pressure sensor i used wouldn't seal so I used tape instead, that fixed it. Everything is now solid as a rock. That brake pedal is absolutely perfect for how it feels.
So tomorrow is all the little crap:
- Get plates
- adjust shifter linkage
- Plop hub and rest of interior in
- double check brake lights and test everything, double check bolts, fasteners, frame, leaks, etc.
If that all checks out, I'll take it for a spin. Either way this feels crazy!
Watch out for zombies. Wait, you're driving one.
- Brakes double checked. All of them are awesome and have a solid pedal
- e-brake fixed
- clutch adjusted, seems to be working right.
- shifter linkage adjusted, and i got that pinch bolt as tight as I possibly could. i'm going to be pissed as hell if it backs off again and i get stuck in a gear. but i got it suuuuuuuuper duper tight. i think i'm ok.
- suspension double checked, everything good.
- double checked all motormounts, also good.
- double checked ALL axle shaft bolts. good.
- double checked all coolant pipes, no leaks.
- gotta put the latches back on the hoods (don't want that going loose while i'm driving)
- not going to bother with putting the whole interior in today, gonna just take it down the block
- insurance put on full, plates obtained from DMV. we're legal!
Going to double check eeeeeeeverything i can first, and then when i can be 100% certain that it's safe, i'll back it out, live stream, and we'll head down the block for today. I do NOT have new tires, so that's as far as I'm going for today, assuming i get it all done before it gets dark.
Oh man this is exciting! I've been following this build for a while now, I'm stoked to see you drive this car!
So, Resto-mod Jalpa. You are truly the man.
Well, well, well ? ? ?
It's been several hours.......
Alrighty. So quick rundown on the drive. Got it about 2 houses down and then it died. The signal cable was rubbing against the spark coil wire. Fixed that. Fired back up, took it up and down the block several times. I decided to lightly get on it (still in 1st), hit a little dip in our road, it apparently decided to let the frunk pin go, and up came the frunk hood. No damage done, but it did scare the living E36 M3 out of me.
Took it back down the road one more time and then parked it.
VERY responsive to throttle, sounds like a beast, smooth as can be. The street tune map once the car is at operating temp is the tits, so far. Does need fine tuning because it's rich as freaking hell during warmup.
I'm going to edit the video since it's got me pulling into the garage and my address which posting publicly gives me the heebie jeebies. I'll get something up tomorrow night. EIther way.... IT LIVES.
Awww Yea. Congratulations!
Very, very happy for you. Thanks for documenting this project for all of us to enjoy.

I think there are only 5 likes on that post because only 5 people have seen it. I estimate that the views/likes ratio trend line will continue on its current path.
Congratulations!!
Awesome!!! So glad to see your dedication & hard work pay off!
