So I picked this up today after work. On a whim, I searched supercharger on craigslist, and this popped up. He had it listed for $500, but I offered him $300 and he accepted.
What is really neat is that Studebakers in the early 60's had a performance package known as the R2, and R3 that featured a Paxton supercharger. In a way we are piecing together our own version of the R package. Maybe we'll call it the R7 package!
Maybe you guys can help with this. The purchase did not come with a lower pulley. I am having trouble figuring out what belt it takes. Is it just 3 v-belts? Is it a special belt? Thanks in advance.
How wide are the grooves at the top? I can't get a good sense of scale from that picture.
Easy button if you don't want to take measurements and match it up to a catalog or Machinery's Handbook is to take the idler to an industrial power transmission store, they should be able to tell you what profile you need.
I can't quite tell, but it appears that the kit came with 3 v belts. The question is can we adapt it to something else, or find the lower pulley.
I will try to get measurements tonight. I think my brother has a machinery handbook. I will ask him.
In that pic they look a whole lot like run of the mill A profile belts, you would either run 3 individual belts, or one "banded" belt that will give a bit more holding power. With some machine work you could adapt a standard industrial pulley, or turn your own.
I struggle with the concept of a missing crank pulley being any more than a minor inconvenience to a Nelson.

You are correct it is not a challenge However as a Nelson he has also learn to be very resourceful As such he knows to ask the community who has one on their shelf, first Turns out we may have located a lower pulley and will know later tonight. Once we have the lower pulley, we will get a matching top pulley.

No. Would love to get an Avanti someday. But we street our Larks for now. Here's a little Christmas Cheer for you....between now and the New Year, we will drive 3 different Studebakers. How sweet is that?
Well I forgot to take measurements. I think swapping to serpentine is the better solution. That way if we are in the middle of nowhere on drag week with the car and throw a belt, we stand a better chance at finding a replacement. Also, finding a lower pulley will be easy.
