You could run it from the main tank using a separate pickup tube that doesn't go all the way down into the tank. That way you only have to worry about a single tank, but you can put the pickup high enough that there's still fuel for the engine when the heater runs dry.

The is the other option, dropping the tank sound like a bitch to me. Ill crawl under there soon though. Need to see if the neighbor has a trans jack. The tank is full.....
Got another panel on tonight, getting closer....
I was trying to figure out how to get material home dry, my lovely wife reminded me I had a box truck in the driveway.... So i have all the knotty cedar for the ceiling now! (it smells amazing!)
Drove the truck ~60 miles today, the burning oil/exhaust leak smell gets bad at stop lights after a long freeway stretch. Still need to look into that... And it still smells like mouse in the cab.....

That's the way my generator fuel pickup was installed in my motorhome. Saves having to remember to check and fill fuel th multiple tanks.

Good point about emergency fuel. Im looking into small tanks now!
Agreed. Small diesel tank is easy to top off anytime. Fuel line connecting the two with a pump that can run either direction would be top notch. Since it can be so catastrophic to a turbo diesel to run out of fuel, having that extra five gallon tank to dump into the main tank might save you a major headache someday.

Ugh I had just decided to use the main tank.... I don't want to loose the storage space to a fuel tank. Maybe I'll look into a small custom tank for under the drivers side skirt

Can someone explain the heater/furnace/intake/exhaust issue for me? No idea what you guys are talking about but I'm curious.

I have a diesel fired heater, debating between running a separate auxiliary tank for it, or drawing from the main truck tank.
Pow was good. Well deep and heavy, but it was snow anyway. School was closed (Seattle, 2" of snow shuts the world down....) so we went skiing.
What are friends good for if not for snapping pics after your wipe out.....
But I made some progress on the truck too. Put about 70 miles on it Sunday, picked up the ceiling material. Its going to be knotty cedar T&G. Smells delicious! But it was smoking again, I think it may be leaking oil onto the exhaust, but it seems to do it randomly. I need to crawl under it again and see whats up.
Drivers Side wall done
Ceiling started. Definitely a rustic cabin kinda look.
Test fit one of the lights Ill be using. I hope they are enough light! They are 3W 120lm each.
Did you have some adult beverages before drilling those light holes? :P

Maybe..... But they are in the right places. Two are over the counter, one is over the door way. There will be a cabinet between them so it doesn't look so goofy

Wow! The knotty pine sounded really strange to me, but it looks absolutely amazing!
In reply to wae:

Thanks, I think its going top look nice as well.
I was trying to get the two windows I have cut in yesterday as we are supposed to get 2" of rain today... I have had a cold coming on, and that sure didn't happen.....
I did get one in, and it was not fun. Turns out my walls are only 1 7/8" thick, not the 2" I planned on. And to make things worse the foam was a bit thin around the windows, this let the plywood bend in even more. So I have to cut a bunch of shims, and make things kinda the right thickness again. Then.... The wall has a big bow in it, vertically. So I couldn't just use the foam strip to install the window. Its glued in like a berklyer now. After getting that in I was spent. The good news is my new patterning bit for the router work great at cutting the holes.
Hole cut
Window in
it got dark....
My stairs came though, and they fit in the under body box! It was close, but they fit.
I also picked up a battery combiner, its rated for 200A continuous, so it should be up to the task. Another CL score, $20!

Any idea where the oil leak is coming from Java? I hate it when it hits a hot as hell exhaust and basically turns the vehicle in to one giant damn smoke bomb lol

Exactly, stop at a light and smoke rolls out from under the cab....
Tech looked at it before I bough it, steam cleaned it and whatnot. It appears the passenger side (the downpipe runs down the passenger side too) glow plug harness and oil pan are leaking. im thinking it may be the glow plug harness letting ti dribble onto the exhaust. It only does it randomly though it seems.
The up pipe flex joints are leaking a bit too, but I dont think that is whats causing the clouds.
In reply to java230:
Hmmm. It could just be the glow plug harness giving you all the grief. IDK though. Without looking at it I'm unable to give a definitive answer.

Thats my guess. I didn't do it the couple times I drove it before, but it was just after getting off the freeway, so maybe its gets blown around. Its on the list to fix, its just not a fun one....
Not much progress as we have been cleaning the old truck out. Listed for sale yesterday... Bitter sweet for sure.
Stair bracket on.
Stairs. Yeah my garage is a mess and very full...
