You guys are all ROCKSTARS!!
I'm happy we could contribute to keeping your head in one piece, and to add a little extra bit of ridiculous flair to your creation. Congrats again guys! You did good.
Not sure if I've chimed in here since the challenge, but wanted to say a big Congrats to you and your team. It would be an outstanding effort for a veteran team, and even more inspiring considering you all are Challenge Rookies. Well done.
I've loved following along on the epic journey. I hope it goes back next year.
BTW, why where those tires a failure in your eyes?
In reply to Adrian_Thompson :
The tires are short track asphalt tires and don't really respond until warmed up much more than we could get in a short autocross run or drag pass. When we first tested the car in July, it was the hottest wekkend of the year and we still did not get the tire up to the suggested (from the manufacturer) temps. Ultimately the tires are fairly tough for extended use, but that did not translate to short high energy input performance.
We should have doped the tires to make then soft and gooey, like an A7.
Now if we had a drift portion of the challenge we may have had something really entertaining for the crowd...
Otherproblem with them is responsiveness. They are very slow in transition, and have incredibly soft sidewalls. So there is no feel, and harder to make fast changes as required by autocross.
I forgot to look before. Im sad to see that Rumble Gary didnt make it to the party, but the super-slow decal looked great too!
Seth tried. For HOURS.
Super slow was the practical solution.
We did give it our best effort though.
And in related news, im crew for the car this weekend. Dallas is signed up for the two day ccrscca event in concord. In c prepared.
Still needs better tires....
In reply to Dusterbd13 :
no worries lol...I know that decals require vectors, and they can be a serious PITA to pull out of JPGs and such. I thought super slow looked great

I just looked at the registration list for the autocross earlier today and saw Dallas' name and the AMC Spirit and knew it would be a fun time. I wasn't at your first outing at zMax, but now I know your story and look forward to congratulating you in person on a job well done! Too bad I'm running in the same class and likely won't get to see the car dance.
there are two 9.5X17 Mustang wheels (5 Spoke) at a Goodwill near me, Woodstock, that could make finding tires easier, 50 bucks I will go down and see if they are still there if you want.
I appreciate the offer. But lets hold off for now and see what fate brings. Though much less than perfect, we have three full sets of f40s.
Im hoping tomorrow to be able to stand back and objectively critique the car. I know what i think it needs, but need to compare to the rest of c prepared.
Also, im hoping to score some dead c prepared slicks to try vs the f40s.
Mccrispin had said that it needs more caster. It was at 6 degrees for the challenge. I blame the flex in the sidewalls of the slicks.
6 degrees is not a Small amount, I know the tires are not gaining heat but try again for some Temp Checks. Castor is for straight line Stability. Think of a Harley with a Long Front end and a Bunch Of rake, You can take your hand off the Bars on the highway But Changing Lanes Rounding a turn In the Neighborhood is common, Increased radius.(scrub Radius)
Dallas pulled 4th in novice today. We wound up at 30psi tire pressure. Still sticks like herpes and has all the transition characteristics of a piece of wet wallpaper.
Hes shooting for trophy in novice tomorrow.
Damn good car. Still neds real rubber....
