What the berk!
Holy berkeleying berkeleynuggets!
I really hope thats not the oil pan, or is just staged for us.
Either way, gear oil in the crankcase should allow it to live long enough to post dynamic times....
Here's today's story.
At Harbor Freight I picked up these gasket scrapers to use as wedges for parting the lower oil pan.
I like them.
I decided the first order of business is drop the lower pan. First I jacked up the front of the car to fit the oil drain pan under it and pulled the drain plug. Nothing came out. That's strange. Check the dip stick and it shows over full. Ok maybe I have it jacked up enough all the oil went to the back of the engine.
Let's drop that oil pan. The wedges worked pretty well. Few hours (edit not hours it was a few wacks) with a hammer and the pan started separating. Then oil started coming out. Ok how did that happen? Put the the drain pan back under it and with a plop the pan fell down to as you see above.
I was curious so I put it in a zip lock and weighted it. That's 4.5 lbs of sludge. No shinnies in the oil itself but under all the sludge I found copper bits.

Yeah the bottom of that was solid like jello. It actually used the pan as a mold. Lil Stampie wants to build a TV mount for his gaming rig. It's nice to be the helper and complain that I'm hot and want to go inside.
Weren't you doing this to diagnose the noise that sounded like rod knock, but you hoped was timing chain? I think this answers that question. Sorry man. You can race Datsaniti if you want.

Correct but maybe I'm just being stubborn here. I took a sample in a coffee filter while the oil was draining over the side of the pan. Here's what I got.
The black I think is just pieces of the sludge. I don't see any shines. So big question time. Do I continue chasing my tail on this one or do I go to a backup plan? I'm willing to accept advice.
If you get thing running you should win by default. Make sure you keep the sludge for your presentation to the judges.

I think we all know that engine is boned. For curiosity I, and probably everyone else, would like to see how messed up it is but I doubt it will be a quick return to health.
What does the backup plan look like? I'm thinking that's going to be the way
Run it. You're a shoe in for-wait for it...
Most. Spectacular. Failure.
Let's be honest, it's everyone's dream.

It might be a pain in the ass with the time crunch, but I think you could find another engine from a yard and slap it in.
I'd probably think of that as Backup A, then Backup B could be craigslist. That's me, though.
