So I will need to address that.Yeah, that's the one big complaint I hear about this chassis MR2. That's why I haven't really looked at them when looking for cars, because I figured at 6'3" and 240lbs, it wouldn't work too well.
Yeah its unfortunate. Ill see what I can do, im sure there is a work around. (gangster lean here i come )
First real drive today! Weather was good, so she came to work, and will get an emissions test this afternoon so I can get plates!
But there is an Odd clunk coming from the rear end now. Happens on a hard decel, then when accelerating again. IE like a stop sign.
There was also one when both rear tires hit a bump at the same time, like an expansion joint, I think I may have found that one.... Forgot to reconnect a swaybar endlink. (hopefully that's it!)
Acme Lab Rat wrote: My guess was going to be endlink, I'd bet that's the problem.
hopefully! Does Not explain the stopping/starting clunk, but I zip tied it tight, so we will see on the way home.
In reply to Acme Lab Rat:
That doesn't sound hopeful.... lol Any idea what could be doing that??
Only thing I could think was heim joint binding and unbinding maybe? Its all new control arms. Jacked it up and nothing seems loose.
First time seeing this thread. I officially hate you.
Great score one the car and those wheels. Is this one going to the Challenge with it's ultra low purchase price?
I have to wonder how much a body shop would have charged to get it up on a frame rack and get it all back in spec for you.
In reply to t25torx:
Yeah it was a lucky deal for sure!
Challenge would be awesome, but it's about as far away as you can get on the continental US.... So unlikely...
No idea what a body shop would have wanted but more than I wanted to pay! I'm still under challenge price... It's been front clipped and was on a rack for that, so I don't think it's too bad. Drives straight, but is twitchy with the current rear alignment, (eyes so that needs to be addressed.
But I just need to go pay and it gets plates! Didn't get time today, and it started raining...

But its got to fit in my budget, I've got about $800 left... Where you located?
I'm in western mass. Come hang.

That's a long ass drive!
So clunking, could be the cv that Got stretched out, or motor mounts. Votes?
When you replaced all the suspension, did you tighten all your control arms with the suspension loaded or unloaded?

On jack stands.
In reply to java230:
Then it's fair say the bushings in the control arms may be excessively loaded when at ride height, much less when the suspension is compressed over a bump. Loosen the control arm bolts at the subframe, load that corner to ride height and tighten. Ive seen overstressed bushings make all sorts of weird noises.
In reply to TGMF:
I'll give it a try!! The arms are heims on moat ends but spherical bushings on one end of a couple.
If you decide you're too tall for this thing, will you sell it to me once you get it all sorted out?

I have driven it a couple times to work now, its not bad, especially once you remove the stupid sun visor! Drove it today since its nice out. Need to remove the drivers side door pull. its huge and makes my knee not fit....
Turns out I have no tail lights..... And the bulbs look fine..... Brake lights work though. and clunk is still there.
Tail lights fixed... Im stupid. It was the fuse....
Now on to the offending door handle. Its in my knees way.
Since im taking the door card off, I need to fix the window. It wont roll down.
Well that might be why the window doesnt work. Track is Berk'ed. And that nasty noise every time the door opens or closes was the door stop catching on the track....
A little hammer and vise time and its sort how is might have supposed to be.... I dont know if it will work long term.
Back together, without annoying handle.
And I saw informed of where the drains were, so I unclogged those so the water can help its self out, and into inside the car.... There is a drain in there...
And plugged.
Im guessing they were trying to keep crawlies out with the mesh behind the flap. Oh well it is what it is.
Pulled the CEL code, o2 sensor heater on one bank.
Got my alignment today, drives SO much better!! Already had eccentric camber bolts in the front, I guess I can return those! Also have the rear bumper all sanded and ready for paint, which I picked up today, damn paint prices have gone up!!
Been driving it the last few days, its a go kart!
