Picked a free radiator. Probably out free because there is a mouse nest in it, and the side panels are unbrazed from the top tank, and there are some rotted away fins, but free radiator, dude!
currently testing it for leakage after flushing the mouse nest out
Couple this with ordering some $3.44 spark plug wires from the Holley clearance site last night and the budget is looking slightly less ominous this afternoon, providing the radiator holds water.
Hour and a half no leaks. This is obviously not a pressure test, but it’s good enough to work with, the $43 s10 radiator isn’t going to work anyway. Who wants a $43 s10 radiator?
They're actually soldered. You can take the whole thing apart and put it back together with a propane torch and a plumbing solder kit.
Leaky veins can just be pinched off and soldered shut.
Making body bushings. Plastic was found while dumpster diving, similar to cutting boards?
Machine tools are awesome.
Indeed they are. I went to an auction this morning with 2 bridgeports, a south bend 13” lathe and a bunch of model T and A stuff, spent $50 on 4 boxes of machinist tools. Probably 60 taps, 100+ drills, 30 reamers, 30+ lathe cutters, lots of tool steel bars, and a good handfull of milling cutters. Plus a bunch of misc pieces, lots of brass pipe plugs, etc. i tried to get another box but it went too rich for me. And I bought something very special for Stampie.
Radiator repair!
Thanks, Crackers!
Part number comes up 67-69 dart. I have to chop off the brackets jim installed for the Honda radiator it had then i can slide this one in and make brackets for it
It’s a bit tall and the sides need clearanced to the front valence at the grill opening. Luckily the grill will cover that. To deal with it hanging down I might make lower brackets that come out forward of the valence and bumpers and hold a moon tank style radiator overflow catch tank that i can make out of a scrap baby keg I picked up while picking a hoarder house prior to the “everything goes in the dumpster” crews came.
I finish welded the rear fenders to the body. Trying to get all the welding and grinding done on the body in the next few weeks so that when i pull the chassis out and finish it, the body goes on ready to prep and paint.
July 6-7 carli and the kids are out of town. All are welcome to come work on a challenge car. 4th and 5th i’ll work on prep. I promise the shop will be clean, but we may have to roll the 57 out of the way to get the chassis outside to paint. Planning to put the chevelle on wheel dollies and roll it sideways for max work space

I'll do my best to be there.

i will do my best to feed people. I don’t speak beer, so if you prefer some BYOB. I’ll have hydration of unleaded varieties, snacks, appetizers for snacking, sounds like Dead Sled is going to smoke some pork, recipe for good times? Maybe a tire popping q45 burnout for a break from work?
Just assembled engine stand last night to wheel the 5.3 for the chevelle out of the way. I am planning to continue work on the Wartburg and get it ready to pull the body by 7/5.
making a seat from a guy that’s 5’8” 130 fit a guy 6’ 270

Ohhhh.
I was wondering at first, if your back is so messed up that you need a floor jack to move a 5lb seat, maybe working on the car is not something that should happen today...
Much better than my plastic seat
Thats a really, really good idea! The butlerbuilt in my challenge car is tight. A little bit too tight. Any tips on how you did it other than "used a floor jack "?
Tried to pinpoint the narrowest spot and put direct pressure on it, then went way l farther than it needed because it springs back. Once i got the narrow point pushed out i went to the new narrowest points on either side and did it again.
Roll bar hoop is test fit, going to mark the floors for drilling. Have to add nothing to the frame because it falls right on top of the body mount outriggers.
Carli grabbed my phone and took a picture of me while i was testing the seat sliders.
Either people used to be really small, or they were just cramped up inside this car like sardines.
I started taking pistons out
Trying to keep on track by being able to post an update every night. All pistons out, going to make a jig tomorrow after work for pushing the pins to the correct depth, then take them to my dads to remove the old pistons because the press is over there
Nightly progress updates are going to be AWESOME
All old pistons pressed off. Broke the first piston, but it’s not like they’re reusable. Furiously searching for the receipt from 15ish years ago to prove that i paid $3 for piston rings.
Also, shorter work day, all firewall pieces made and welding complete. Just can’t grind because the open engine is in front of the car.
