Will do, Stampie
done with the cleanout job. Filled a 30 yard dumpster
It looks sadly like my guy scrapped the lbc aluminum differential. Oh well it would be in my way anyway.
Free items of note:
2x2x30” solid square steel
1x3x10’steel tube
1/4x1x12’ flat aluminum stock
hf 1.5 ton jack
lots of spraypaint
welding table with record vise
nos s10 grill
lots of oil and air filters
one center cap for ET slot mag
tons of misc steel tubes and angles
fuel transfer tank with 120v pump and filter
I can’t even remember at this point but there are lots of fabrication materials and several things that will make completion of the Wartburg much easier.
Leaving for Michigan tomorrow will be home Saturday night, hope to get something done on the car sunday.
You guys would appreciate the antique fire truck that carli’s grandpa got his last ride in. He was the Springfield Township, MI fire chief for a long time and was with the department for 50 years. There were 10-15 other fire trucks leading the way.

I'm sure he loved it. Always good to see someone so loved when they pass.
Bodywork can eat a big fat D
Where did you get the wire cup on the angle grinder? Is that a common thing? I need those!
In reply to AngryCorvair :
Get a knotted one, they last much longer.
Granted, you will still catch many wires in your pants and shirt, and by extension you'd be dumb to not wear a face shield, but the cup brush life is greatly extended.

Tractor supply ones are less deadly than harbor freight ones.

I've had good luck with the the standard big-box home improvement ones and terrible, awful luck with the HF ones. They make metal prep for welding so much easier, but once they lose a chunk of knots and wires they become unbalanced and shake the crap out of your hands.

Knotted wheels and cups FTW. Just be ware they remove metal rapidly.
I'm already dreading miles of body work..... Tried to sand one section by hand tonight and gave up. 36 grit even.....

Flap wheels are a gift from the gods
Also post 666 is mine
filler down low is not over rust, it’s over a seam because some 2 paintjobs ago someone actually replaced the door bottoms. On a Wartburg. I don’t know if they got patch panels somewhere or made them, but they did one hell of a job.
this gives me hope that my turd may also get polished one day
Filling the gouging around the windows.
Also welded up 4 holes in the back of the car and made a spectacular fireball when I started welding 4 feet from a brake cleaner soaked rag that was on the package tray. I grabbed it and threw it, where it landed on a tire and more rags, then i threw it on the floor and let it burn out. Finished welding while it was burning
i think i like the $16.99 summit racing lightweight body filler

I had forgotten about the cruel reality of symmetry when, after finally pulling off the impossible on one side of the car, you had to start all over on the other side. The first side is fueled by the challenge of it all, the second side, never so much.
Pete
Should have done this on the other side
Much of the same except this one is nicer at the front bottom and not as nice in the middle because the car was hit back here at some point and everything is sprung
Yes my mufflers are purple and i berkeleying love it

Fortunately no one will be looking at both sides of the car at the same time.
